Fall in love with Greenville, SC

On a recent trip to northern Greenville County, Upstate South Carolina I traveled along Scenic Highway 11 and was mystified by the beauty of the leaves brilliant with change and the crisp fall air. I have lived in Upstate SC all my life and still stand in awe at the change of season and the beautiful landscape.

I worked for years with a Large Corporation and we have four of the past CEO's that have made Greenville SC their home. When I asked them why they didn't transition to another area as most in their position do? Their responses were all the same. They grew to love the Upstate and all that it had to offer. They all concluded that Greenville's cultural experiences, the great climate and the stunning downtown with views of the mountains made their choice easy.

I want to share some of the pictures of my trip and to offer an invitation. Come visit our beautiful city soon and experience what so many have. I know you will enjoy your stay and maybe you too will make Greenville your home!

Cowpens' Battlefield, The American Victory '1781' South Carolina

In my pursuit to share with everyone the wonderful history in the Greenville, SC Real Estate market I took a forty minute drive to Cowpens South Carolina. There is a wonderful preservation of the history behind the American victory at the battle of Cowpens in 1781. Below are some of the pictures and information that I found on my self guided tour. I hope that you enjoy this post.

The picture below is of the Robert Scruggs' house. It was built around 1830 after Robert's father gave him and his new bride Catherine Connell 200 acres of land that were less than a quarter mile from where the battles of Cowpen's raged nearly half a century before.

Life was hard for the Farmer and his Family of eleven children. Yoeman farmers raised wheat, corn, potatoes and livestock. Their wives would produce household items such as soap, yarn from wool and kept a garden that helped feed the large family. The pictures are from inside their home and give us a glimpse at living during that time in history.

Below is the area where most of the cooking and meal preparation took place. The home had a few additions adding to its dementions but was still very small for a family of thirteen

These pictures are of the battlefields where the British troops arrived at dawn on the 17th day of January 1781. The right flank of the British army was in this field and stretched across Green River road. General Morgan with the American army awaited in the distance. The battle only lasted an hour with the American's leaving victorious. After the battle General Morgan marched his army across the Broad River where he disbanded it. Many of the troops helped build the country. Some of the troops went west to start a new life and ten of them served on Congress representing five States.

The battle of Cowpens was a decisive American victory that helped set up the British surrender at Yorktown.

Campbell's Covered Bridge

While on a drive through Greer, SC recently on scenic highway 14 I saw a sign directing the curious history buff to Campbell's Covered bridge. It was only a few miles out of the way so I decided to check it out. On the way I saw the remains of two old grist mills that ground grain from local farmers and those as far away as North Carolina.

The last of its kind
