I Just Got Free Advertising That Will Reach Thousands.......

...and all I had to do was ask!Atlanta Home Improvement

I am a decorative painter in Atlantaand advertising, as you know is expensive. I try to do things that will get me noticed and try to maximize my SEO by blogging as you all do.

Atlanta Home Improvement Magazine is a free publication that is placed in thousands of paint and hardware stores around the city. (this publication also has circulations in many other major US cities)

I sent an e-mail to the editor several months ago, asking about the magazine, and asking if they feature new businesses. She said "yes"! There is a section called "home front" that highlights smaller businesses and the services they offer.

They included a picture of one of my murals and a great article describing the services I offer such as

  • murals: both on site and portable
  • wall design
  • faux painting
  • furniture
  • cabinet re-finishing
  • the fact that I offer "healthy" products with low/no VOC and environmentally friendly

I also offer antique mirror glass and many other services.

I am so glad people will see this and know what I can offer them for their homes and businesses.

Please see my web sitefor a complete list of services and to view some of my portfolio.

Exciting Cultural Event in Athens

Athens, Georgia is best known for "The Dogs" (Georgia Bulldogs, that is) but this weekend, August 29th, Athens will host an exciting art event.

Two wonderfully creative and very diverse artists from Venezuela will be exhibiting their work at the Lyndon House Arts Center.

Carlos Solis, a native of Venezuela, specializes in surreal oil paintings. His vision and use of textured media is something you just have to see for yourself. Please visit Carlos's web site and you'll see what I mean. Carlos has been selling his paintings here in Atlanta and also painting wall murals for upscale clients. He has been featured in several art magazines.

Stanley Bermudez was born in New Orleans, but grew up in Venezuela. His wonderful use of color and shapes is something that I have never seen before. Please take a minute to visit Stanley's web site as well. You will see how vibrant and alive his work is, and you will want to see more!

These artists are very different in style, but very similar in their lust for life.

There will be a celebration to kick off the Gallery show.

Painted Playrooom Transformation: I Used My EARS!

As a decorative painter in Atlanta Georgia, I am constantly asked to create designs based on my years of knowledge and experience. Often my clients have no idea what they want and are looking for direction and guidance. Other times the client has a vision, but doesn't have all the pieces to put it together.

My latest client was a mother of a 6 year old who wanted to create a bright and fun space for her daughter to play in. The playroom was in the lower level of their home, and had no windows.

As usual, in my initial consultation, I observe the current style of the client's home. I notice the color scheme and trend that are followed. This allows me to create looks that will not only be to the client's liking, but will also fit with their current decor.

This client had an idea of a design that was taken from a magazine she had seen several months earlier.I spent some time listening to her tell me what she liked and did not like about the picture she had saved. I listened as she described the colors and really focused on the concept she was trying to relay. I heard her say several times how she loved the dark purple ceiling.

Listening and taking what I hear into my studio, is what sets me appart from my competitors. I can see her vision because I listen with purpose and interest.

After our meeting and seeing the area and taking some photos, I went back to my studio to create some looks and sample boards. I found a wonderful purple color (Eddie Bauer "Hyacinth") Purple can be tricky. You don't want grape kool-aid! After the purple was chosen, I combined pinks (Laura Ashley "Rosey" and "Raspberry) and greens (Laura Ashley "Forest 6" and "Moss 3") to complete the palette. I then made a board showing what each area would look like.

The client and I sat down with the sample and discussed the size and layout of the room. The paint that was used for the base was the same as what was in the room so I could show her exactly what it would look like. This also gave me a chance to work with the paint and get just the look I wanted

As the rooom developed, there were some minor changes made. When I felt something would work better a certain way, I always consulted with the client for final approval.

The results were fantastic and the client was very pleased as was her daughter.

This is a shot of the playroom before I got to work. The area is dull. There is beautiful crown molding that you don't even notice. The room has no windows, and definately needs some brightening.

As you can see, this design really brings out the crown molding, as well as makes the room brighter. I copied the design that I was given for the right side wall, and then I took the colors and design idea, and custom created the pattern on the back and left side wall.

Something special needed to be in these corners. The client stated she wanted "a freeform scroll design" on the ceiling.

I decided to create a lighter area for the black scroll design and give it a soft shape.

Honoring Motherhood (in my own little way)

Completed another painting today. I call this one "Modern Madonna".

Modern Madonna painting

I am happy with this one. It honors the institution of "Motherhood". We all know how a mother's love can be seen in the simplest of places. This mom is probably not rich, but her baby is clean, fat, and his hair is neatly trimmed. I've shown her carrying her baby up a hill. (mothers will be able to relate to this metaphor!)

I also wanted to show the softness of the mom and baby against the sharp coldness of the world.

If you live near Marietta Georgia, please come by Marietta Square on Friday September 4 from 6pm - 9pm for the "First Friday Art Walk". You will be able to see this as well as my other work and see samples of my furniture and wall designs.
