Iviswold- Located in Rutherford $454,081

Located on the campus of Felician College in Rutherford ,Iviswold, )also known as "the castle") is an example of the lavish homes that dotted the area during the Gilded Age of the late 1800s. In a multiphase project supported by $454,081 in matching grants from the county's Trust Fund, Felician college is resoting many of Iviswold's significant historic features, while simultaneously adapting it to become the Campus Center for its 1,500 students.

In 1998, the citizens of Bergen County overhwlemingly supported the creation of a five-year Open Space Trsut Fund. The Trust Fund is dedicated to supporting open space and recreation acquistion and development, as well as historical preservation and farmland protection throughout Bergen County.

In 2003 , the Trust Fund as made permanent by another vote of Bergen County's electorate.

Turning a 50 year dream into a reality

Finally, under the administraion of County Executive Dennis McNerney, progress is being made.

By leveragaing money from several sources, including $8.95 million in appropriations from the Bergen County Open Space Trust Fund, the Bergen County Improvement Authority (BCIA) is overseeing a project to cap the landfill. On top of it, the "new" parkland will include baseball and soccer fields, tennis courts, and an amphitheatre, boat launches along side stabilized creek banks, picnic areas, jogging trails, walkng paths, a children's playground, and a wildlife refuge.

Construction has already begun in Teaneck and Ridgefield Park sections of the site. The entire project is expected to be complete in 2009, thereafter providing a new jewel in the Bergen County park systems.

Scholarship named for historian

"The Westwood Heritage Society, a volunteer organization that is dedicated to the preservation of the history, beauty and spirit of the Borough of Westwood, will award its Cheryl Todd Memorial Community Service Scholarship to a highschool student who is a resident of Westwood and who is completing his or her senior year.

The Scholarship, which is dedicated to the memory of Cheryl Todd, former borough historian, who evoted her life as a volunteer to the research and preservation of the history and heritage of the Borough of Westwood, will be awarded to a student who has been accepted for enrollment in a post highschool education program and who has a demonstrated record of community service in the Borough of Westwood.
