Lessons Taught from Hanging out with my Grandchildren

My newest pleasure in life. Working to understand "strange" behavior.

The joy of being a grandparent overflows from my heart on a daily basis. In fact when I haven't seen my grandchildren for a couple of days I do my best to find a way to drop by and spend a few moments. Knowing that I would be leaving on vacation this Saturday I dropped by my son's home just to hang out with Sam a few minutes. Sam was taking his nap and I was SO disappointed. Fortunately my daughter in law Hannah called us Friday and invited us over to spend a few moments with Sam. Sam and I ended up shooting a baskets. He has a new shot. He puts the ball over his head and walks backwards saying, "shoot it from here.?"

Then Sam runs to the basket and shoots it just before he gets there. Sam has a great sense of humor and loves teasing. I am not sure if he thinks he is really shooting it from far back or if he knows better and is just teasing. What you need to understand is Sam is only 20 months old and he shoots a very small ball at a very short basket.

Putting our behavior in the correct context is so crucial. It is just too easy to dismiss grumpy people, or distracted people or demanding people as unworthy of our time or sympathy. I suspect if we had a clear window into what is truly happening in their lives we would be shocked and ashamed of our initial behavior and actions.

My grandchildren have been so influential in helping me empathize with people that may seem "grumpy." When I have those impatient thoughts Sam is a reminder that I really don't know what in life people are experiencing.

stock.xchng, what a site!

A new Discovery! stock.xchng

Today I found this great site for free photos and clips. However I also found that just saving and loading to my Activerain blog does not work. So no i am experimenting to find out what does work.

The first thing I am trying is saving the link to the photo rather than the photo itself. Well that didn't work.

So next I tried saving as a bitmap instead of as a jpeg. Bet that doesn't work.

Sales are up but listings keep pace. A great time to buy!

Rector Hayden Market Report for Fayette County Ky reveals a spike in sales coupled with a spike in listings. Still a good deal to be had. Sales have increased, even doubled in some price ranges but there is still more than six months inventory in almost all categories. Still a great buyers market.

If you would like to get this market and a report for six other central Kentucky Counties via email every month just send a request to pcampbell@rhr.com.

Another Good Deal

I just picked up a contract for a buyer that was accepted without change by the sellers.

These first time buyers had tried twice to get a home that they liked but were not willing to pay what was close to the asking price. After doing the comps on both of the previous properties it was obvious they were not close to market price.

It was a long journey for my buyers but it was well worth it to see how excited they were to find their dream home at a reasonable price.

On more than one occasion I had a negative thought like "is this really going to work out?" This is the sixth buyer I have helped find a home in the past three months. They all had there challenges but in the end it is so rewarding to see people get a home for a fair price and with a reasonable payment.

I am still puzzled why any one would not want to buy a home right now. It is just so easy to afford the payments. This couple bought a 2500 square foot home for less than most of the 1200 square foot homes are renting.

Preventive Medicine -Being Honest with your clients.

I spent most of my day at the UK hospital. There is so much cancer in my family that the doctors keep watch on me like a cop using radar to catch speeders on the expressway.

The radar today was honed in on my esophogus. My father died of esophogal cancer so there is due cause for this regular visit.

The photos actually look better than the old ones if my memory serves me correctly. This is my first visit to the Good Samaritan part of the University of Kentucky hospital network. The doctor who did the procedure looked like a clone of Doogie Howser. What happened to the days when I was younger than my doctors?

Going to the hospital and getting a good report is a huge relieve for me and my family. I once read that married men live 7 years longer than single men. Not surprising. I almost always see the doctor either to please my wife or at my wife's pleading and encouragement.

Statistically we are told preventive medicine saves billions of dollars. Getting checked up is a better choice than just checking out and hoping we will be well.

I think preventive realtors need to have a similar frame of mind. I believe we need to constantly encourage each other to tell the truth to our sellers. I wonder if we had the courage to tell our sellers the truth if we could prevent so many overpriced homes and so many sellers from days and days of frustration? Yes, I often am a dreamer....
