Love and Friendship - A Journey of Story

Kathy and I just returned from Louisville where we had the opportunity to spend the day with dear friends from near Seattle.

We have know Greg and Kathleen for 18 years. We lived about a mile apart, we fellowshipped at the same church, we shared many a meal together, celebrated our children's successes and supported each other during their struggles.

The Christian and Missionary Alliance convention was in Louisville this week. Kathy and I fellowshipped with Greg and Kathleen at Woodinville Alliance church near Seattle. Greg and Kathleen came to our home last Saturday and Sunday here in Lexington.

I knew when we moved from Woodinville to be near our children and the emerging grandchildren that the transition would not be without heartache. It was just so good to be with people that know our story.

The older I get the more I come to understand that living a loving life is really about learning to share the story of those around us and actively participate as characters in that story. Here are some elements of story living that I have come to really appreciate.

My story is not just about me. In fact my story is much more about the people who have lived, breathed, sweated and sometimes even shouted into my life.

Every story is unique but when shared with those you trust it becomes a healthy, vibrant, messy compilation of many lives that builds a shared and trusted community with many similarities.

The deepest love in my life is with my wife as we have shared our story hour by hour for almost 38 years. That shared story between Kathy and I has been greatly enriched as we have had opportunity to be influenced by the story of other individuals and couples. Seeing how other marriages have matured through difficult times has stirred our hearts and created a mortor of love that binds our hearts with couples like Greg and Kathleen.

It is the hope and pray of Kathy and I that we will be able to inter into story sharing with many people in Lexington that also become communities of love.

New Listings Daily Twitter.com, Paulhelps

Today I started a goal of sharing a few of the new listings that I find that are intriguing, unbelievable, etc.

Just go to Twitter.com and follow paulhelps

I like to get up early so my goal is to check out the brand new listings each day and share a few that look most promising.

I have not previewed these homes so they may not be what they seem.

I would love to have the opportunity to show any prospective buyers these and any other homes you may find interesting as you search the web. The best place to search for these homes is on paulcampbell.rhr.com.

We are excited about our Lily Rain Barrel.

If you have not purchased a Lily Rain Barrel from Fayette County you need to go on line and order one this very moment.

Lily Purchase

These barrels are designed to easily attach to a downspout and easily disperse your water. But what is really awesome is the barrels have a deeply recessed lid for you to plant a bunch of beautiful plants.

I am very impressed with Fayette County taking the initiative to have these available for only $75.00.

Way to go Fayette County, you have just become a little greener.

Confidence or Confusion

This morning I read an article about how consumer confidence is improving.

This comes on the heals of having talked with two business men in Lexington yesterday that are about to file bankruptcy. These are not men who speculated in the stock market or leveraged the equity in their homes. They simply did business as usual and the business slowed down so much they cannot pay the bills.

I came home yesterday worried for these men and worried for my community. My confidence in the economy took a nose dive yesterday and I am feeling much more a sense of confusion.

Yes, I have personally been successful the last two months helping first time buyers and investors.

However despite the increase of home sells the past couple of months in Central Kentucky I am still somewhat skeptical and these are the reasons why.

The increase of homes sales in Fayette county during the months of March and April was mostly in the homes priced at 250,000 and less.

There is still a glut of homes on the market. This is especially evident in home priced over $250,000. The thing to remember in looking at these numbers is anything over six months of inventory has traditionally been considered a buyer's market. Here is a sample:

  • 250,000-299,999 12 months of inventory
  • 350,000-399,999 18 months of inventory
  • 600,000-649,999 21 months of inventory
  • 700,000-749,999 42 months of inventory

These numbers are from the monthly Rector Hayden Market Report. If you would like to receive this report just email me. Rector Hayden publishes this report for all of the counties in Central Kentucky.
