"If you don't like change, leave it here" is the message posted on the tip jar at Mon Ami Cafe.
Mon Ami is a quaint but quirky shop in Uptown Village that offers specialty coffee drinks featuring fresh, locally roasted Stumptown beans, a selection of fresh crepes made with organic white and buckwheat flour from Bob's Red Mill, all in a comfortable, casual environment in the Uptown Village area of Vancouver.
Our favorite is the triple mocha, served in an oversized mug with artfully decorated foam topping. The varied crepe selection includes cinnamon & sugar (my wife's favorite), jam crepe, PB&J crepe, PB, Banana, Cinnamon & Honey crepe, ham, pear & brie crepe, ham & swiss crepe, and a salmon & tomato crepe, among others.
Another sign in the restaurant playfully states "Unattended children will be given a triple espresso and sent home with a free puppy". Gotta love 'em!
The cafe walls proudly display varying collections of artwork. Mon Ami also has a selection of beer and wine, and offers live music every Saturday from 5:30 - 7:30p.
Mon Ami is an important part of the Uptown Village community and definitely worth checking out. The restaurant is located at 1906 Main St in Vancouver. Their phone number is (360) 750-5693 and business hours are Mon-Fri, 7:30a - 5:00p; Saturday 8:30a - 7:30p & Sunday, 9:00a - 2:00p
The Story of Mon Ami
Entrepreneurial ideas brewed while Juliana Viveralli and Claire Ghormley lived, worked, and socialized in their favorite Vancouver neighborhoods. In 2003 Claire opened Twisted Shots Espresso on West McLoughlin, the first business in Downtown Vancouver to feature Portland's StumptownTM Coffee. Since then she has honed her skills as an expert barista and baker. Juliana grew up with a family tradition in the restaurant business working for her grandparents and learning from her father who is a chef and entrepreneur. Juliana received her MBA (with focus in Small Business) from WSU in December of 2006. The idea to team-up and open a creperie sparked one day over some espresso.
In French, Mon Ami means "My Friend." The cafe opened in June of 2006 after remodeling the space at 1906 Main using as much recycled materials as possible. The cafe is one of the first restaurants in the area to compost all their paper waste. Claire and Juliana share a distinct interest in the arts, cooking, good wine, micro-brew beer, and top-notch coffee, not to mention fervent enthusiasm for Downtown and Uptown Vancouver.

We made what's turning into a weekly trip to the Vancouver Farmers Market today. The wifely one has decided that having fresh flowers each week is a must. This week, we bought from Xiong Farms. The flowers were beautiful and they were kind enough to make us a custom bouquet. It is stunning ... and only $12!
We have to admit that the market was a little light on vendors this week ... probably due to the weather. We came across several, though, that were quite interesting. We'll be sharing info on several of them in the coming weeks. This week, though, we want to highlight a food vendor call Fetzer's German Sausage.
Fetzer's German Brand Sausages are authentic Old World recipe sausages produced using the freshest, leanest, hand crafted all natural meats, and the finest ingredients available. They use Carlton Farms meat exclusively, which is truly "Fresh and Natural." It is minimally processed. It contains no artificial ingredients, chemicals, preservatives, or coloring. No hormones, injected moisture, or curing accelerators are used. The sausages are made to exacting specifications weekly, with lean 100% meat. We do not use MSG, fillers, or additives that some manufacturers use to add weight and cut costs. You can feel and taste the difference.
The Fetzer family has been hand crafting gourmet sausage products in Germany for over a century. Since 1880 they have been using the same old world recipes created by Eugen Fetzer's grandfather. They are still in use today. Eugen and Marianne Fetzer produced their famous sausage in Germany for 25 years until they came to the United States in 1978. They founded Fetzer's German Sausage and Deli on Cedar Hills Blvd. in Beaverton OR, and operated a full service deli and catering facility loved by many until 1998. They also sold their products at several Farmers Markets throughout the Portland area. Since that time the Fetzers have continued making the sausage and selling it wholesale and at the various Farmers Markets including Vancouver Farmers Market.
There are five types of delicious, fully cooked, authentic German sausage:
German Bratwurst: This savory light colored sausage is the most popular seller. Made with natural Pork. Flavor: Mild
Weisswurst: Original style from Munich. Enjoyable light colored sausage with natural herbs. Made with natural Pork. Flavor: Mild
Smoked Bratwurst: A very delectable sausage with a smoky flavor and a little garlic. Made with natural Pork and Beef. Wood smoked. Flavor: Mild.
Spicy Beer Sausage: This sausage is just the right amount of spicy and is highly flavorful. Made with natural Pork and Beef. Wood Smoked. Flavor: Spicy.
Hungarian Style: This tasty sausaget is the spicients of the bunch and has its own unique flavor. Made with natural Pork. Wood Smoked. Flavor: Very Spicy
Fetzers German Sausage is available at:
They are also available by calling (503) 641-6300 or emailing sales@fetzers-sausage.com
You should definitely give them a try!

Based on the crowd, it looks like the Grand Opening of the new Grand Central Fred Meyer was a wild success! Despite some crowded aisles and long check-out lines, people were friendly and seemed excited about the new mega-store.
The new Fred Meyer store boasts a design and unique food offerings like no other location in the chain. The location offers an expanded selection of natural and organic products. Some of the notable differences to the untrained eye were an expanded footprint (135,000 square feet!), a large selection of gourmet prepared foods and desserts, and a drive-up pharmacy, all in an upscale environment.
People who braved the weather and the crowds were able to take advantage of crazy coupon deals included 2 pound blocks of Tillamook Cheese for $2.99, Nabisco Oreos for $0.99 each, and 24-Pack Coke products for $3.99. They were also offered free pizza & soda at the store's West entranc, $1 hot dog & soda at the Boar's Head cart, and a free latte (with coupon) at the Peet's Coffee stand.
Grand Opening events include:

One of the hardest things about relocating to a new area is finding your new 'go to' people. You know, the people that you turn to and can trust for ... what ever. Like what doctor/s will you go to? What dentist will you go to? What daycare provider? Restaurants? Grocery store? Drycleaner? Real Estate agent? (by the way, we can recommend a great REALTOR® team in Vancouver/Clark County WA if you're considering buying or selling in the area!!!) Bank? Hair Stylist? Home improvement center? or any of the other businesses and vendors that you have built up and rely on in your community.
We've lived in the Vancouver / Clark County for most of our lives and have a lot of people that we are comfortable recommending for any number of services. Today, we want to highlight Arts & Scraps.
Arts & Scraps is a scrapbooking, paper crafting, artsy, fun and inspiring boutique located in Vancouver WA. They also offer exceptional custom framing services, specializing in shadowbox, memorabilia & keepsake collections and photo collage. They welcome you to bring in your photos, art or keepsakes and let them help you create the perfect personalized home decor or gift piece.
Their Goals:

Arts & Scraps was developed with the idea of supplying products and design insight that enhance your creativity, scrapbooks and arts & crafts projects. With over 15 years in the scrapbook and design industry they have what it takes to be a favorite and consistent resource for originality and inspiration.
In the last couple months, we have had 3 art pieces framed by Arts & Scraps and we have a 4th being done right now. They have been extraordinarily helpful in helping us choose the right mats and frame styles to compliment our art without overpowering the peices. They were patient with us as we spent what may have been hours choosing just the right mat/frame combination. We have been very pleased with the quality of their work and, on top of it all, their prices are very fair!
Arts & Scraps has recently relocated from a location near Vancouver Mall / Westfield ShoppingTown. They will be having a Grand Opening event on Saturday, May 3rd begin at 11:00 am and running all day until 5:00pm. they will have grand raffle drawings, free make and take it projects, hourly prize drawings, extra punch card deals, and all sorts of other fun things.
