Risk Management- Are you acting right??

I took an online CE required course yesterday for Risk Management and just couldn't shake what the intro to the lesson was saying... It really made me ponder people and their motives. I, for the life of me, just can't imagine bringing harm to others to benefit myself. Yet, I do see it in our industry today- Unfortunately. Both unfortunately for the people buying and selling in an area, and unfortunately for the reputation it can seem to give all of us by a crooked few.

I wanted to paste my selection from the intro below and get you guys to comment your thoughts.

"To understand "risk management," we must first understand our business or, more specifically, our job. As licensed brokers and salespersons, we are to sell or lease real estate - residential or commercial - and make a living in doguy on tightropeing so. Brokers manage a sales force to make a profit, and salespeople move real estate for income. We must all understand our primary goal - to generate income and make a living by listing, selling, or leasing real estate.

However, the desire to generate income causes some of us to forget our other primary goal - the representation and care of the real estate consumer. Sometimes our desire to earn money entices us to ignore certain rules and principles as we choose to place our own interests ahead of our client's.

Other times it is our ignorance or inability to remember these rules and principles that gets us in trouble with the real estate consumer and real estate regulatory powers. Real estate is a complicated business; we are sometimes overwhelmed by all that we are required to remember. Never forget that ignorance or forgetfulness is not an excuse nor a defense."

I see why Risk Management is a required course more now than before. It is a good refresher for us to remember why we are selling real estate, both financially and morally.

Wordless Wednesday

my photo of lighthouseI know that it's Wordless Wednesday but I can't not tell you a little more about it. Oh, how I wish I didn't have the time stamp on this photo. Yet it still captures the beauty of one of our local treasures right here in the South. Only 178 steps to the top! Adorable little museum at the bottom and a gift shop with great treasures.

Check out more information at www.tybeelighthouse.org. It is one place you definitely want to visit if ever in Savannah, GA.
