Consider State and Local Taxes When Retiring!

07-28-09
PAM DUNN

Most people do not think about local and state taxes when choosing a place to retire. An unexpectedly tax bill could put a crimp in your rretirement living!

Do your research before you move-Know what to expect before the bill!! As important as family, climate and housing is when choosing a place to retire --taxes shouldn't be overlooked said Eve Evans, co-author of the new edition of America's Best Low-Tax retirement Towns.

"Relocation to a low-tax town could result in more disposable income and a better standard of living."

One in 10 seniors now moves out of state to retire and that number will grow as more boomers retire. Boomers have changed jobs and crisscrossed across the country more than their parents ever did. People should start considering where they want to retire 3-5 years prior to the day and really do their research. It will pay off in the long run!

Visit your choices of retirement and get a feel of the local environment, talk to the people, drive around and get advice from a Real Estate Agent.

Retirement living.com, which advises aspiring retirees on popular places to settle down ans just updated its web-site with current information.

Because property and sales tax rates can vary widely within a state, retirees should focus on the taxes of the towns they are considering says Ms. Evans.. "For much of your life, your job dictates where you live," says Fred Brock, author of Retire on Less Than You Think. " But when you retire, you're finally in control."

Many retirees live on modest income but are property rich, so their property tax bill is crucial. The state with the highest property tax burdens are new Jersey, New Hampshire and Connecticut.

Investing In Land----Tennessee The" Affordable Paradise"

PAM DUNN

Today's economy is very frustrating for sure! If you are like me- I close my eyes when I open the statement from my 401K. I am so tired of seeing the negative mark next to the numbers-aren't you?

Investing in land is the smart choice! There will never be more of it (unless you live in Hawaii). Land does not go away, it is a constant and will always hold its value.

Of course, it is important to buy where property is increasing in value- hidden jewels not yet found. It is wise to buy where the cost of living is inexpensive-this attracts buyers to the area-guarding your investment.

So where is this? Crossville Tennessee and the surrounding areas is the new North Carolina. The Carolina's used to be the choice, but the cost of everything-especially housing is through the roof! Tennessee is just as pretty, still a great choice of life and is the" Affordable Paradise".Go onto my website at www.cumberlandmountainplateau and see the prices of property in this area. You will be amazed! Come see for yourself- where the mountains kiss the sky!
