If
If you are craving authentic German food and bier, I have the perfect place for you! The Von Rothenburg Bier Stube in Germantown Wi not only looks authentic, it tastes that way too. This picturesque building on Main Street is somewhat compact, but in summer, seating expands as the patio is open for dining. The building is traditional in German architecture, has beautiful stained glass windows, richly carved wood, and is packed with German decor on the inside. http://www.vonrothenburgs.com/home.htm

While the food menu is basic, the bier list is quite long. The food is actually carried across the lot line from Jerry's Old Town next You will find classic German selections like Leberkase (my husbands favorite), rollbraten and bratwurst. http://www.vonrothenburgs.com/menu.htm You may even shout "Das schmecht gut!" (that tastes good) once you take a bite! But I would venture that more people come here for the bier than the food! With over 200 beers on the menu, plus SIX German drought beers, you can find something that will treat your taste buds! According to their website: "A tiny and unassuming bier stube in old town downtown Germantown, Von Rothenburg features over 200 bottled beers from around the world as well as six drought German beers served in your choice of correct glassware, from a 2L boot or 3L pilsner to a 5L mug." In case you need an explanation on the differences between an Altbier and a BockBier, here is your primer: http://www.vonrothenburgs.com/bierglossary.html
The Bier Stube is open for lunch and dinners most days, but is closed on Sundays. http://www.vonrothenburgs.com/biergarten.html And what kind of beer garden would it be without some live music? Check the website for summer dates featuring Peggy Mueller on the button box, and her husband Hansi, dressed in Lederhosen plays spoons!

If you live in Milwaukee, WI, you know our summer days can get quite hot and often quite humid. This summer there is a new way to cool off: The Dave Schultz Aquatic Center. Located at the corner of Green Bay & Hampton Avenues, in Lincoln Park. http://www.county.milwaukee.gov/Pools9145/LincolnAquatic.htm
In years past, many county parks had a swimming pool, many have been closed due to lack of enough swimmers. In the mid 90's a UWM study concluded that the "waterpark" was a more popular alternative to deep well pools. Dave Schultz the Milwaukee County Executive at the time, ran with the idea, and the waterpark areas started to be built in some parks.
I had to talk my way in, to take this photo from the top of the water slide!
The Aquatic Center in Lincoln Park features a large pool with interactive water areas/splash pads, the largest lazy river in the area, 2 water slides, 2 lap lanes, and a diving well with 2 diving boards. The pool is surrounded with concrete deck and a large grassy sunning area.
For a nominal fee, a family can spend the day here and enjoy a fun day in the sun and water. The pool is open 7 days a week through the end of summer. On hot days, it fills to capacity with a waiting line, so get there early!
Appropriately named after our former County Executive, Dave Schultz's family was on hand for the dedication early this season. Dave passed away last fall from heart disease, but his larger than life spirit will be remembered as more and more swimmers use this new pool!

Sunday evenings in Tree Tops is usually a pretty quiet and peaceful time, but not this weekend...Early Sunday evening, July 25th, Flight For Life, landed in Tree Tops Park. Arriving to pick up an injured cyclist, the med flight landed right in the middle of Tree Tops Subdivision, while neighbors, police and firefighters stood by.
According to local news http://www.todaystmj4.com/news/local/51775892.html, a 12 year old rode his bike through a stop sign and was hit by an oncoming car. From the time the cyclist was hit, the number of onlookers grew. The first helped as best possible and called 911. By the time the med flight arrived, more neighbors were on the scene, but close access was limited by fire and police.
While it might be nice to get together and visit with neighbors, this isn't the way we'd like to do it! Our neighborhood park has seen kids playing, the annual Spring Egg Hunt, and now Flight For Life. Hopefully the latter won't happen ever again.
