Even if you happen to be out of town for the long weekend, you can catch some cool Memorial Day
Remembrances at Wood National Cemetery next weekend! A favorite of mine, the celebration starts with a Memorial service. There will be participants wearing the uniform of from all conflicts, starting with the Spanish American War, all the way through today's conflict in Iraq, and everything in between, including Revolutionary War, Civil War, WWI, WWII, Korean Conflict, Viet Nam and Desert Storm.
The is called "Reclaiming Our Heritage Weekend" http://www.rohmilwaukee.org/ and is the 8th annual event held the weekend after Memorial Day. This year a special feature will be showcasing medical personnel over the years. This event is held on the grounds of the National Soldiers Home adjacent to the Zablocki Medical Center and Wood Veterans Cemetery. The Soldiers Home is one of only 3 in the nation that were established by our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln
.
It is interesting to see the uniforms, and how they changed over the decades, and for that matter centuries. It is also interesting to see the volunteers that take up these uniforms and portray the soldiers of days gone by. It was always a great experience for my kids, to see what soldiers looked like over the years and to remember those who fight for our freedom! this year there is a Civil War School Day, Patriotic Parade, and medical demonstrations, along with other fun family activities.

Today,almost 400 Wisconsin Realtors marched to Madison to meet with their Legislators. 
They voiced their opinions and concerns on a wide range of issues that affect the American Dream. Those topics included a proposed 50% hike in our capital gains tax (from 40% to 60%), property taxes impact on housing affordability, and a proposal giving assessors the ability to enter onto private property with no notice required, no limits on when, how long or the frequency of their visit!
So while most days, Realtors spend their day Selling the American Dream, today many Wisconsin REaltors worked on Protecting the American Dream.
The day concluded with an address from Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle, and his views on the state economy and ways to bring it back. Of course he agreed that housing was a key to this revival. He signed a consumer protection bill relating to real estate to conclude the day.
If you live in Wisconsin, plan on attending next year. Our association Governmental Affairs Directors do a great job preparing for this day. Our WRA experts start our day with a briefing on the issues and key points to stress to our Legislators! It is a chance to see our government in action first hand. Join us next year and help protect the American Dream.

My college son was selected as one of 25 college students from across the country to do a summer
internship in Germany. He will be working in Dusseldorf, and needs a place to live.
Do you know anyone who lives in that area? Do you know anyone who lives in Germany, and THEY might know someone who lives in that area? All he needs is a room and a bath! He is bi lingual, so they don't need to know ANY english, he can speak German all day long!
Erik is easy going, well versed in international travel, Germany's transportation system, and able to get around on his own. He will be looking for housing for the dates of June 5-August 20th.
