Truckee Real Estate and the Weather in Truckee, CA

TRUCKEE REAL ESTATE AND THE WEATHER IN TRUCKEE, CA....that seems to be all that the locals are talking about. It makes sense when you think about it. Truckee is a resort town so the bulk of our commerce comes from second homeowners and the ski industry. How long has it been since we have had a really really good storm? It seems to me it was back in October, 2011 when we got a huge dump of snow and all started bracing ourselves for what we thought would be a repeat of the winter of 2010-2011.

Today I look out of my window at the office and it looks like Spring. We all know March and April could be turn around months for us, but as far as the local economy, the season is lost. But, we could certainly use any sort of precipitation so believe me, rain or snow is much better than shine!! By the way, I always check with the Northstar Weather Blog to see what the upcoming forecast looks like.

And what about the Truckee real estate? Our inventory is so low it is difficult to give a buyer a lot of choices. The short sales and the bank owned properties are discouraging any standard sale from coming on the market unless a seller really needs to move on. For a second homeowner seller, that urgency might not be there. So if he or she can wait, of course that is what they will do. Surprisingly, the market is definitely picking up. I had multiple offers last week on a listing and received over list because it seemed over the President's Weekend a lot of buyers who weren't skiing decided with such fantastic prices they better get into the game and find a house. But for the one buyer that got the deal, there is another buyer who didn't and is looking with not much to choose from. So to any potential sellers out there in the Truckee real estate area, give me a call! We need more listings!!

TRUCKEE, Calif. — It's that time of the year again. Grab those gloves, shovels and boots and bring the family and friends out to help restore the Truckee River. The 16th annual Truckee River Day is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 16.

Volunteers will have their choice of half or full-day restoration projects with different levels of difficulty. There will be 13 projects including re-vegetation to further restoration at Perazzo Meadows, plantings to restore the former Town Corporation Yard, and surveying for fish habitat in the Little Truckee River. A celebration at the River Fair will follow the projects.

The River Fair will be from 1-4 p.m. at Granite Flat Campground and will include food, live entertainment, fun environmental activities for youths and adults with the annual fish release at 3 p.m. Everyone is invited to the fair even if you're not participating in restoration projects.

I am a supporter of the Truckee River Watershed Council as a supporter. I live on the Truckee River. This is a great cause and an important one. We had a really big snow pack this last winter and some sources are saying it might happen again.

Living and working in Truckee, these kind of issues are definitely worth paying attention to and showing up for!

Last year was such a blast! We worked at this incredible site.

Amgen Bike Tour comes through Truckee, CA MAYBE

Amgen Bike Tour comes through Truckee, CA tomorrow, MAYBE! Stage 1 from South Shore Lake Tahoe to Northstar in Truckee, CA was cancelled! They postponed the start to 1:15 pm and then cancelled right at that time. I didn't hear of the cancellation so at 1:15 drove to Tahoe City, intending to see the cyclists come through town and take the shorter route to Northstar.

But the weather was not cooperating, once again. It was snowing hard all the way over to Tahoe City and we were seeing traffic driving against us going back to Truckee which didn't make sense. Until we got to Tahoe City, got out of the car, got on the sidewalk and asked someone....cancelled at the start. Good idea to be safety conscious but so disappointing for so many people who have been looking forward to this event since last fall when the announcement came out that it would start in beautiful Lake Tahoe.

Stage 2 tomorrow from Squaw Valley, up highway 40 and over Donner Summit to the lower elevations. Keep your fingers crossed, if it is snowing again tomorrow (as predicted) we might see another cancellation.

AMGEN bike tour comes through Truckee, CA

AMGEN BIKE TOUR COMES THROUGH TRUCKEE, CA and we have been so jazzed to see it coming. I have been blogging about the big winter we had here in the Sierras. Well it looks like winter is going to be visiting us again, tomorrow morning, the Stage 1 day for the big cycling tour. The weather service has indicated we have a 90% chance snow at the upper elevations. The tour will be going of Donner Summit on Monday, and that is definitely considered to be "upper elevations."

Truckee and Lake Tahoe communities will be seeing some international attention this weekend as the 6th Annual Amgen Tour of California starts the 1st stage on Sunday in South Lake Tahoe. This is the largest cycling tour in the U.S, comprised of 140 riders on 18 elite teams covering 800 miles of California's roadways. With the end of the 1st stage at Northstar, and the start of the 2nd at Squaw Valley, this is an event that shouldn't be missed. With rain and snow on the forecast, it won't be the perfect cycling event but dedicated fans will surely show with layers and weather wear cheering on the world's best riders including last years winner Levi Leipheimer. For more information on the details of this event and the maps of all 8 Stages through California, visit the Amgen Tour.

This morning my daughter and business partner, Megan Jitloff, took a cycling trip with her local team members from the Luna Chixs over the Summit to Cisco Grove and back. Megan Jitloff bikesPity the Amgen couldn't have gone today...she said it was chilly but loads of fun! We have heard that this evening the event planners might have to make a weather call, but we don't know what the weather call might entail...postpone? cancel?

Life in Truckee, CA certainly has it added drama from our weather!

The Truckee River is raging, so beautiful! The mountains are covered with snow and Mother Nature will decide most likely what happens with the Amgen Tour tomorrow.
