Getting Better Keyword Conversion

Seasoned professionals in the arena of online marketing know it's sometimes better to use keywords that target potential customers who are "late" in the buying cycle.

So, how do you find out what these keywords are? ...and why are they so important? In professional terms, what we are talking about here is the concept of targeting so-called long tail keywords.

Long Tail keywords are those 3 and 4-keyword phrases which are very, very specific to whatever you are selling. You see, whenever a prospect uses a highly specific search phrase, they tend to be looking for exactly what they are actually going to buy. In virtually every case, such very specific searches are much more likely to convert to sales than general generic searches that tend to be geared more toward the type of research that consumers typically do prior to making a buying decision.

So don't be afraid to build your site around "Toledo Starter Homes for Families".

Latent Semantic Indexing and SEO

I just want to make a post today to address a quick question that I have received in the last week.

First of all I want to thank Joan Whitebook for reading my blog and taking time to respond with a question.

Q: She asks if my posts include the recent changes to the Google formula.

A: Google spends millions and millions of dollars perfecting alogorithms that produce the optimal experience for the searcher. They are not concerned about those who are interested in promoting their sites. Unless you buy Google Pay Per Click. Therefore, they do not announce and are actually quite secretive about any of their new features to the search engine.

That being said, there has been a leak that has made it's way into certain circles that I think is very helpful. The idea is that Google will now be largely driven by what they call Latent Semantic Indexing. This is a fancy way to say that google will not just use the keywords in your web page, but that they will use all the words in the document and rank they relate to each other.

Here is an example:

Old Way

Primary importance: Tiltle Tag: St. Paul Realtor Body of Site: Repeat those words in the body of your text throughout your web pages.

New Way

Still important to use this technique above, but there is an additional step. The rest of your text needs to reflect the "theme" of your targeted keywords. (ie, there needs to be writing about st. paul, the community, the real estate there.)

So, the point is, you need to go a step beyond just including keywords in title tags and text body. Write your site in such a way that a computer alogorithm can distill it down into your desired theme and give you favorable search rankings.

Ciao

Search Engine Ranking and Content

If you are creating a Realty website or working on a site you've already created, the content of the site is one of the most important factors for successful search engine marketing. The pages you create should provide valuable information that references very specific terms and concepts that are unique to your website and your specific niche.

Text is one part of the content that is important for being found in search engines. Search engines usually read and index the first 500 words from each page they successfully crawl. The text within that span of words is one factor that helps to determine your relevance for a particular search term.

If you are successful at weaving your keywords into compelling copy (remember humans are your primary reader) you are more likely to be relevant for keyword searches. Once your site has been up and running for three months, run a report on your log files to determine what keywords people are using to find your site.

There are two tools that every website owner should have:

Google Analytics

Google Webmaster Tool

Google Analytics will tell you crucial information about the traffic that is coming to your site. Google Webmaster Tool will tell you how your pages are being ranked and allow you to adjust you content accordingly.

This is in no way all the steps to achieving great site ranking but it is a good start. For more information on SEO and site ranking go to MN web design.
