Carl's Blog - Thought Provoker - Low cost tips keep dollars in your pocket this winter.
Complete Home Inspection Service 830 - 899-2441
1. During the winter keep your draperies open during the day to let sunlight warm your home and keep them closed at night to help keep cold air out.
2. Seal leaks and caulk around doors and windows to prevent air loss, change or clean air filters every month and make sure your home is properly insulted. ( I did a series on this earlier in the month).
3. Run the dishwasher when it is full, and air-dry instead of using heat dry setting. You will save electricity by washing fewer loads and not drying with heat.
4. Wash full loads of clothes and if possible use cold water to wash your clothes. You will save electricity by running fewer loads and not heating the water.
5. In the winter which is almost upon us here in Texas, set the thermostat to 68 degrees in the daytime and comfortable lower setting at night or when you are away from home.
We keep hearing your utility bill will be rising, try a few of these and see if it will help.

Recycle your plant pots and save yourself some money by Ceil Winters
Summer is over and now we need to think about Fall and Fall Plants. Here are some tips that will save you some money. Spruce up those old clay pots.
Mums are my favorite
Recycle those old plants pots.
1. Remove old plant and potting soil.
2. Use soap and water and a scrub brush to remove grit and grime.
3. Rinse well and let dry completely.
4. If you want you can paint; I use exterior semi-gloss.
5. This is a good way to recycle all your old paint.
6. You can get creative and do lots of projects when you recycle.
7. You can even spray paint and spruce up old basket plant holders. Spray paint and ribbon go a long way.
8. While the paint is drying, take a nap.
9. While I'm napping I send Carl to the nursery to buy me some new plants. Any color mums are fine with me.
10. Always start with new potting soil.
11.The nursery has a great variety of fall plants to choose from.
Mums are my favorite. You can't go wrong and the colors are great. When it gets too cold outside bring them in and set around. You can enjoy them right up to the holidays.
If you are selling your home adding fall flowers will look great after the long, hot, dry summer we have had here in Texas. When your mums get too tall, cut them down and they will come back again several times.
If you are buying a home in my service area of Comal County or Bexar County and surrounding area, please give me a call. Carl Wintes, Complete Inspection service 830-660-0131. I am an Advanced Home Inspector, License #3630.

The best baby back ribs ever@The Gristmill in Gruene Texas
We went over to Gruene last evening and walked around awhile and enjoyed the evening then went to eat "our favorite" baby back ribs; giant onion rings and special beans. Oh so good!
Shoosh don't tell anyone but everything on the menu is the best ever.
Here is a photo of one of the old renovated homes over at Gruene, Texas
When you see this you know you're in Gruene Texas

We sat down on the lower level where we could see the water and watch the sun set.
If you have been to Gruene then you should plan another visit soon. If you have not you really should plan a visit. This is our favorite time of the year.
