Tony Tours the Town - Northwest Cabarrus HS - JROTC Drill Competition - Concord NC

In previous posts, I have mentioned that my son is a member of the JROTC at his school- Northwest Cabarrus High School.

They have had several drill competitions but I was never able to attend any for they were always in a different part of the state.

Hurray!! The most recent one was held right here in Charlotte at Independence High School. I went!

Watching my son perform his drills was one of the proudest moments in my life. He participated in 3 of the 4 drills his squad prepared.

That was a full day for us. He had to get to his school for the bus at 6:30 am. The competition began at 9 am and ended around 2pm. After the competition, we went home and got his stuff ready for a Boy Scout campout he had to get to. We got to the campout around 4pm and I hung around 'til 7. I had a good time but that's another post. : )

Tony Tours the Town - Lake Norman - North Carolina

Lake Norman, North Carolina...

...is one of Charlotte's finest crown jewels. It is located just north of the city and is accessible by road or highway.

On a fine summer day, the lake is spotted with the boats of lake goers who are fishing, swimming, or just enjoying the sun.

It borders: Huntersvillle, Cornelius, Davidson, Mooresville, Troutman, Sherrills Ford, and Denver NC.

There are also a handful of parks that edge on Lake Norman. They are heavily forested, pedestrian friendly and never lack things for people to do.

One of those parks is Jetton Park located on the Peninsula in Cornelius, NC

The next time you're down this way, be sure to stop in.

There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy the scenery here at the lake.

You and your children will have fun in the playgrounds located throughout the park.

Tony Tours the Town - Rhythm in Effect Dance Studio - Huntersville NC

There are many reasons to consider moving to the Charlotte area...

The weather

Cost of living

Recreation, etc...

On the subject of recreation, I want to tell you about Rhythm in Effect Dance Studio in Huntersville, NC (www.RhythminEffect.com), just north of Charlotte and west of Concord NC.

My daughters have been learning dance there for the past 4 years and we couldn't be happier with their performance. The owners, Miss Tymphany and Miss Michelle, who also teach, are great with the girls and take pride in them as much as the parents do.

My younger daughter, Katrina, joined the Competition Dance Troupe this year. We've already seen an improvement in her dance.

Yesterday was their first competition in Charlotte at Central Piedmont Community College (CPCC) off of Charlottetown Road.

It rained all day but that didn't stop us from enjoying all the dancers.

The girls' ages ranged from 7 to 16. There were three divisions dancing with my daughter being in the Petite group.

At the end of the competition, awards were given out.

Katrina's group, the Emerald Troupe, took FIRST place in their division!! and were also awarded the Platinum Performance award.

Hurray!!

My other daughter, Annalisa, was so impressed, she wants to join Competiton next year...

...can anyone say, "sibling rivalry?"

Charlotte 49ers

University of North Carolina at Charlotte

The wife came home Friday with two tickets to the Charlotte 49er's game for today.

Of course, I would take no one other than my buddy...my son.

The game was 20 minutes away at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.

The entrance to the university is on University City Blvd.

The campus is large and nicely planned with beautiful landscape and lots of walking paths.

It was certainly an exciting game. I'd say the teams were evenly matched for the score was pretty much tied throughout the 1st half and it wasn't until mid 2nd half that the 49er's started to lead.

During halftime, we went to the concession stand to have a little lunch.

We had chili cheese hotdogs, curly fries and a couple of drinks.

YUM!!!

Oh and after that, I bought some funnel cake. : )

Our afternoon outing ended on a high note with Charlotte winning over the Ohio Daytons 79 to 66.

Snow Halos sent from Above - Concord NC

Well, the snow has stopped (thank God). I admit that it makes everything look pretty and clean, but I still would rather have no snow at all!

Granted, I got out on the Golf Course (behind the house) and did my share of sliding down the snow covered hill along with the kids (that was fun).

Lastly, I like how the snow formed, what appears to me as, halos on the heads of St. Anthony and baby.

I should be thankful that we got as little snow as we did. Up north, it would have been 3 feet instead of 3 inches!
