What Consumers Don't Know About Their FICO Score Can Cost Them Money
Studies show that nearly 80% of all credit reports contain serious errors that could cost consumers extra money in high interest rates, insurances rates and mortgage fees.
Three quarters of all lenders use consumer credit scores when considering whether to extend a loan or credit. Consumer FICO scores are also used to determine a person's ability to get a job. The higher the credit score, the more favorable, including lower the interest rates on loans and credit cards. To get the best interest rates, some experts suggest that consumers have a score of 720 or above. Others say that 750 or higher will guarantee the best rates.

How Long Does Information Stay on a Credit Report?
Credit information can, and usually does, stay on a person's credit report for seven years. Collections stay on the report for seven years from the date of last activity - whether that is the date that the account was filed as a collection or the date the account was paid in full. Here's an example:
"Jane Borrower" had a collection for $300 filed against her in October of 1994, and she hasn't paid it. It is now September of 2001, so in a few weeks that collection can come off of her credit report. (She will probably have to request of all three credit bureaus that they take it off.) However, Jane has applied for a loan today, and the loan officer tells her that she has to pay off that debt in order to be approved. Since she has the money, she pays it off. Because the date of last activity is now September 2001, the collection will show on her report until September 2008 - another seven years.
Bankruptcy information can stay on a credit report for ten years. Information about foreclosures is reportable for twelve years from the date filed. Garnishments, judgments, and tax liens can stay on the report for twelve years from the date of entry or for seven years from the date they were satisfied. Dismissed garnishments, judgments, and tax liens are not reportable.

Celebrating New Year's Eve is one of those things that you either acknowledge with a bang or you let it sneak in quietly. Myself, I tend to prefer a quiet evening at home, perhaps preparing a nice dinner for myself and my wife, and if we're lucky, we make it to midnight to watch Ryan Seacrest on Times Square. Yeah, boring.
Other around San Diego (i.e. younger people:-) like to head to big events to celebrate with the rest of their friends and community. And that's cool, too, because San Diego has a couple of longtime traditions for ringing in the New Year.
Sure, we don't have an established gathering spot, a la New York City's Times Square or even Seattle's Space Needle, that San Diegans can go to without being charged an arm and a leg. Nevertheless, there are big bashes where you can go, even places where the whole family can go. In addition, many hotels and restaurants around town have special New Year's Even dinner packages, if you're so inclined.
Here are a few suggestions to ring in the New Year with a bang. Check the links below for more info for each event. Just remember to be careful and don't drink and drive.
