McHenry County TEN QUESTIONS TO A FAIR ASSESSMENT

A good place to start looking for property tax relief for 2009 taxes. Too late for 2008. It's all based on township as far as deadlines for filling complaints.

From the McHenry County Assessor,

AN EXPLANATION OF THE APPEAL PROCESS IN MCHENRY COUNTY

1. What’s my first step to determine if my assessment is accurate? Call your local township assessor. Make sure the information about your property is correct. The local assessor may also be able to show you other properties similar to yours in your neighborhood. You can determine if your property is equitably assessed. He or she may also have sales information. If you have lived in your home for a long time, you may not realize how much it is worth now.

You can also use your favorite local Realtor to get data to compare to any data the county supplies. Or you can take the data given to you by the county and supply it to a Realtor for analysis.

Would you pay $12/month to use the library?

Well, you already are if you live in McHenry, IL through your property taxes. I don't think that's too big of an amount. I pay 20 just for Netflix. I do use the library but not as much as I should.

Just saw this in the McHenry Pubic Library District newsletter. They estimate the service population at 35,500 and there is 22,014 card holders. Does that mean there is over 13,000 people paying $12/month and don't have a library card? Not sure.

There's a lot more than books and movies, theres classes for kids and adults, and a bunch of stuff for children and teens.
