Four Seasons Salon has become Lakeview Salon in Okauchee

My sister is the occasional blogger for me, and I forgot to give her the new name of the former Four Seasons Salon in Okauchee. Mea culpa here.

The new Salon is called Lake View Salon -- very apropo, it's situated in downtown Okauchee, between two lakes, Okauchee on the north side and Florence Lake on the south side (well, my directions are a little off, more like southwest).

Up and coming business, walk-ins welcome. Appointments desired. Check it out for salon-style work at good country prices.

Porticello is Open for Lunch!! On Silver Lake, Oconomowoc

Okay, our lunch choices in Oconomowoc is not bad. I love Sweetie Pies, downtown. Spinnakers has a nice porch, and view of Lac LaBelle. Winesteins is great for salads and wraps.

But for real Italian food, you can't beat Porticello's on Silver Lake.

Until last week, they opened at 4:00 pm. Now they open at 11:00 am during the week!! Be still my heart. I can get my eggplant fix early now. I heard their lunch prices are excellent. Lasagne for $4.00?

Don't quote me, I'm not a lasagne eater. But give me those vegetables...it's a different story.

If you're in Oconomowoc, check it out. I give it 5-stars.

Four Seasons Beauty Salon Reopened - Okauchee, Wisconsin

Where can you get a professional wash and style for $16? Try Debbie Lynn at the re-opened Four Seasons Beauty Salon.

The building is still for sale. I should know, I've been trying to sell it for my cousin Diane Mahnke Hubing, but with the recession -- it seemed more advantageous to rent it out and keep it going. What was downtown Okauchee without the Four Seasons? It had been a mainstay for over 40 years (as a salon).

According to Millie Babich, in "Gateway to Okauchee" it was one of the first grocery stores that belonged to Walter and Mrs. Schraudenbach. Then it was operated after 1909 as a grocery and post office. It was also known as Walter's Bootery, a shoe store.

Graduation at OHS - Saturday, June 13, 2009

It's the end of an era, and the beginning of a new one. Our youngest, my nephew, is graduating high school. It will be another generation before I see another one. Or visit the school to pick him up from the sick room. The next time I go to Oconomowoc High School will be to vote -- or visit the new theatre.

Oconomowoc has always been dedicated to the cultural arts. We have an impressive art gallery and store downtown, a local theatre arts group and live theatre, organized concerts at different venues, and of course, the VFW band plays at the band shelter.

Did you know that the original movie,"The Wizard of Oz"premiered in Oconomowoc? To celebrate the grand opening of the new Theatre at OHS, {also known as the Oconomowoc Arts Center} the Oconomowoc Area Historical Society made a display of Wizard of Oz history and memorabilia exhibit. If you enjoy the exhibit, drop an email to the Society at oahs-m@sbcglobal.net and let the hardworking volunteers know.
