Rain or Shine, fun was had by all at the Opening Ceremony of the Beaufort SC Water Festival. During the Opening Ceremony, the Marine Corps Band had to stop playing because a lightening storm rolled in. In a valiant effort, the fireworks were shot off a little early, but were still beautiful! Chris Skrip, Maria Skrip, and Mary McClaskey of RE/MAX Sea Island Realty attended on the boat. They were one of only 6 boats anchored at the Opening Ceremony this year. The storms appeared to have scared most people off of the water for the evening. The Beaufort SC Water Festival brings thousands of visitors to our small town each July.

On Monday, The Beaufort County Planning Commission met about adding to the Habersham community:
The 57 shop front buildings would house commercial spaces on the street level and residences in the upper level(s). These proposed shop front buildings would be in the AICUZ (Air Installation Compatibility Use Zone) of MCAS Beaufort.
In order for the proposed expansion to pass, The Beaufort County Planning Commission recommended:
The Planning Commission makes non-binding recommendations to the County Council. The developer at Habersham is concerned that these recommendations may make the project not cost effective for them to move forward.

Why go to the beach, when you can take the boat to the Sand Bar?
In Beaufort SC, we have 6 to 8 foot tide changes. During low tide, we have beautiful sand bars that pop up in our rivers. We have a mix of sand bar activities. Pictured above is 'the party' sand bar that is located near Downtown Marina. There are sand bars on the north side of the swing bridge that are very family oriented and pet friendly. As you can see in the picture, sun lovers beach their boats on the sand bars and enjoy the sun and water for a few hours until the tide comes in - - and the sand bar disappears. This picture was taken this past Friday, the 4th of July, so you see very patriotic boaters are flying old glory.
On Saturday, I visited 2 other sand bars - one near Morgan Island and the other near Marsh Harbor Marina. Both of those sand bars were nearly deserted with less than 10 people on each. We met some wonderful families with children and a really sweet dog named Rudder (yes, like the boat rudder - too funny!).
No matter if you want a quiet relaxing day or feel in the mood to live a little further to the wild side, the Beaufort Sand Bars have it all!
