Is Sarah Palin READY to be a Global Leader guiding us through these Market Corrections?

09-23-08
Jane Herron

Congratulations to Sarah Palin for being the most masterful with the MEDIA (male or female). Congrats to her rapid rise to ROCK STAR status (like Obama) mistakes and all with so little scholarly education and so many real live situations that she is managing publicly (her baby, her son going to Iraq, her pregnant teen daughter) as it is obvious that the world is acknowledging something very special and relatable in her.

And lets face it we are defining WORLD LEADERS at this moment. Is this self proclaimed Hockey Mom ready to be a World Leader? You decide! http://www.cbsnews.com/video/watch/?id=4476649n

On the "Feminist" front there is a real difference between the women in politics/business who were in the "starting blocks" of the women movement (those whom have "bloodied their knees from taking those rauching jobs and dealing with the growing pains of getting educated into the corporate positions) from the next generation of women who have come into this world with an entirely different set of expectations of success. This younger group of Feminists have had a generation of women teaching them the "balancing act"; females "mentoring them" up the ladder; females showing them how to get around the "old boy's network". The Pioneers did not have this support. And yet, there seems to be little gratitude or appreciation at times from this younger generation for the "pioneers".

IE: Sarah Palins remarks about Hillary Clinton "whining" over some of the unprecedented scrutiny that she endured that none of her white male counterparts endured as a "candidate" or as a "polititian". When Hillary was asked about this insult, Clinton told her audience: "I don't think that's what this election is about! (She quickly shifted gears and said) Anybody that believes the Republicans can fix the mess they created (over the last 8 years) probably believes the iceberg could have saved the Titanic." As Barack said: You can put LIPSTICK on a PIG (McCains record of voting with Bush 90% of the time)......AND, it still is a PIG.

And think about it, without all of the LIPSTICK . . . McCain would be in the SPOTLIGHT, not Palin !!

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Obama / Biden vs. McCain / Palin

Obama vs. McCainSince we're in the process of selecting not only the new leaders of the United States, but also the new leaders of the Free World, I wanted to do a little research on their educational backgrounds. Personally I view wisdom as an important trait in a leader, and there can be no wisdom without knowledge.

It also seems to me that humans have basically always universally held this belief, as we even see evidence dating back to Plato's Republic in which the Guardians of the state required strict educational training.

The following descriptions are all taken directly (and unedited) from Wikipedia.

The Democratic Ticket

Barack Obama

Barack ObamaFollowing high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years. He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations. Obama graduated with a B.A. from Columbia in 1983.

Obama entered Harvard Law School in late 1988 and at the end of his first year was selected as an editor of the Harvard Law Review based on his grades and a writing competition. In his second year he was elected president of the Law Review, a full-time volunteer position functioning as editor-in-chief and supervising the law review's staff of 80 editors. Obama's election in February 1990 as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review was widely reported and followed by several long, detailed profiles. He graduated with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude from Harvard in 1991.

Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, as a Lecturer for four years (1992â€"1996), and as a Senior Lecturer for eight years (1996â€"2004).

Joe Biden

Joe BidenHe attended the University of Delaware in Newark, where he graduated with a double major in history and political science in 1965. He went on to receive his J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law in 1968, and was admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1969.

The Republican Ticket

John McCain

John McCainFollowing in the footsteps of his father and grandfather, McCain entered the United States Naval Academy at Annapolis. There, he was a friend and informal leader for many of his classmates, and sometimes stood up for people who were being bullied. He also became a lightweight boxer.

McCain came into conflict with higher-ranking personnel, he did not always obey the rules, and that contributed to a low class rank (894 of 899) despite a strong intelligence. He did well in academic subjects that interested him, such as literature and history, but studied only enough to pass subjects he struggled with, such as mathematics. McCain graduated in 1958.

Sarah Palin

Sarah PalinPalin spent her first college semester at Hawaii Pacific College, transferring in 1983 to North Idaho College and then to the University of Idaho. She attended Matanuska-Susitna College in Alaska for one term, returning to the University of Idaho to complete her Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism, graduating in 1987.

And what do HOCKY MOMs have to say about Sarah Palin?

Now a Little Commentary by John P. (the author of this article) Jane just re-posted his point of view.

John McCain was born in Panama because his father was in the military. Growing up, he attended about 20 different schools. But wait, he did manage to do really well in wrestling! Of course, the guy is 5′7″ tall and probably weighed about 125 pounds. So, I'm guessing that he was quite a scrapper as a kid.

Suffice it to say that that sort of an early education can't be good. So how the hell did he get into the US Naval Academy? Simple. His father and grandfather were both four-star United States Navy admirals.

The guy was then ranked number 894 of 899 in his class! WTF?!?!? Do you know how bad you have to be in order to be ranked that low by military personnel who know that your father and grandfather could have you shipped off to a freakin' base in Alaska? You can't justify that by saying you're "a rebel"! It's the freakin military! That just means you have no discipline whatsoever.

But speaking of Alaska, Sarah Palin took 6 years and 5 colleges to receive a BS in Journalism. Holy crap! It reminds me of the movie Tommy Boy:

Tommy: You know a lot of people go to college for seven years.
Richard: I know, they're called doctors.

After only one semester in 1982 at Hawaii Pacific University in the business administration program, she transferred to North Idaho College (What? From Hawaii?? Why???) as a general studies major for two semesters in 1983.

From there she transferred to the University of Idaho, and majored in journalism from fall 1984 to spring 1985. She then returned to Alaska's Matanuska-Susitna College in fall 1985, but then returned to Idaho, in 1986 and 1987, when she graduated.

Interestingly, even though she was a Journalism major, she never worked for any college newspaper or any other agency.

On the other hand, Barack Obama not only was an editor for Harvard (the #1 University in the country), but he was also elected as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review! A prized and prestigious position given to only those who have EARNED tremendous respect by his peers.

Crikey, even his backup running mate has a Juris Doctorate degree (from the #53 University in the US)!

So, in summary it all comes down to the following decision:

  • Do I want the two most powerful people on earth to have barely survived their college experiences (one of whom gained entrance because of his daddy's and grandpa's performance)? ......OR.........
  • Do I want the two most powerful people on earth to have extremely advanced degrees, which they earned themselves despite coming from poor beginnings, and one of them taught CONSTITUTIONAL LAW at the University of Chicago for more than 10 years!!

Now, let's compare the real Presidential candidates points of views on a variety of issues:

Did you see this Sunday's strategists talk about Obama and McCain? This is great!! http://abcnews.go.com/Video/playerIndex?id=5849844

And are you aware that the largest women's organization in the USA has given Obama/Biden their vote? http://www.now.org/press/09-08/09-16.html

The National Organization for Women (NOW) reviewed Sen. Obama's record and public statements on issues that disproportionately affect the women of this nation:

On pay equity. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Lilly Ledbetter Fair Pay Act and the Paycheck Fairness Act, legislation to end wage discrimination against women.

On reproductive rights. Sen. Obama is a co-sponsor of the Prevention First Act, to strengthen access to contraception and reproductive health care, and prevent unwanted pregnancies. He strongly supports Roe v. Wade and will oppose any efforts to overturn it.

On violence against women. Sen. Obama supports the continued reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act -- of which Sen. Joe Biden is the chief sponsor -- as well as the Security and Financial Empowerment (SAFE) Act, which is legislation to provide legal, medical and financial support to victims of domestic violence.

On the Supreme Court. Sen. Obama opposed the nominations of George Bush's extreme right-wing nominees to the Supreme Court, who have consistently ruled against women's rights.

For more than a decade, Barack Obama has said "yes" to women's rights, while John McCain has consistently said "no" - NO to pay equity, NO to contraceptive access and reproductive rights, NO to appointing Supreme Court judges who will uphold women's rights and civil rights, NO to funding shelters and other anti-violence programs, and NO to supporting working moms and dads with policies that support work/life balance.

NOW supported Sen. Hillary Clinton in the primary, and now we join with her in saying "NO" -- No Way, No How, No McCain! And we proudly stand arm-in-arm with Hillary in putting our hopes and our dreams, our hard work and our hard-earned money, behind the next President of the United States -- Barack Obama, and his running mate, longtime friend and ally of women, Sen. Joe Biden.

And, there are independent organizations that rate the candidates based upon their voting records. The candidates have to have enough votes in a particular area to actually get rated, but here are the ones that John P. (the author of this article) is aware of:

John McCain is a Populist-Leaning Conservative.
McCain is Conservative

All of the data here has come from a direct comparison of records as reported by OnTheIssues.org. Here is John McCain's page, and Barack Obama's.

They also have a VoteMatch quiz you can take which tells you which candidate you most closely match up with philosophically. Interestingly, I had a 48% match with Obama and a 30% match with McCain.

*******************now a note from Jane*******************

Now I (jane) believe in the RIGHTS we have fought for (as women + minorities) over the years, and praise Obama for giving a HAND UP not a HAND OUT to poor Americans. IF that makes me a flaming Liberal, then so be it. I believe in true EMPOWERMENT and believe understanding how to use POWER effectively as a man or a woman takes time, takes training either at school or on the streets.

Interestingly, Palin has compared herself to Margaret Thatcher who at age 54 (not 44) was elected Leader of the Conservative Party from 1975 to 1990 and then Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1979 to 1990.

Margaret Thatcher was the first and only woman to date to hold either post.[1] .....and she most certainly paid her dues before taking on such a daunting task.

Trained as a barrister (a lawyer) [different from Sarah Palin who took six years to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in communications-journalism], Margaret Thatcher was selected as the Conservative Candidate for Finchley in 1958 and won the seat in the general election the following year. [similar to Palin, she was young when she entered the world of politics]

When Edward Heath formed a government in 1970, he appointed Thatcher as Secretary of State for Education and Science. In 1974, she backed Sir Keith Joseph in his bid to become Conservative party leader, but he was forced to drop out of the election.

Thatcher then entered the contest herself and became leader of the Conservative party in 1975. As the Conservative party maintained leads in most polls, Thatcher went on to become Britain's Prime Minister in the 1979 General Election.

Thatcher's tenure as Prime Minister was the longest since that of Lord Salisbury and was the longest continuous period in office since Lord Liverpool was Prime Minister in the early 19th century.[1]

She was the first woman to lead a major political party in the UK, and the first of only three women to have held any of the four great offices of state.

Among other things, she defiantly opposed the Soviet Union, and her tough-talking rhetoric gained her the nickname the "Iron Lady".[1]

She currently has a life peerage as Baroness Thatcher, of Kesteven in the County of Lincolnshire, which entitles her to sit in the House of Lords.

One blogger described Sarah Palin as "Margaret Thatcher with five kids and a Klondike drawl" . . .

. . . while Jonah Goldberg of the conservative "National Review" enthused: "She was put on this earth to do two things: kill caribou and kick butt. She just happens to be all out of caribou."

IF I stretch, I do see some similiarities between Palin (new school Feminist) + Thatcher (the original old school Feminist), however, I am very concerned on the number of personal positions that Palin has taken that significantly differs her from being compared to someone as accomplished as Margaret Thatcher.

  • Remember Readers, it is OBAMA who taught CONSTITUTIONAL LAW at the University of Chicago for more than 10 years!! So it is important that Sarah Palin learn not to mock the constitution, and the rights of all people in the USA. I think she may have alot to learn about the lower 48!!

  • Palin is unlikely to speak with an investigator hired by the Alaska state legislature to look into the matter of Palin using her position of power to settle a personal score with Trooper Mike Wooten (her former brother-in-law). http://news.aol.com/elections/article/palin-rebuffs-troopergate-investigation/175155?icid=200100125x1209342772x1200569302

  • Here is a link to the Top 10-Most Powerful Women in the WORLD http://www.livescience.com/history/top10-powerful-women-1.html

  • One woman wrote me....."the junior product manager gets promoted to CEO". IF you look at Palin's election records, you would wonder if it were not for the natural resources in Alaska (OIL) and a desire to establish NUCLEAR stations near Russia, if the GOP would have backed her so vigorously. While running for Mayor of Wasilla, only about 1000 / 5000 voted and she won by 136 votes. When running for Govenor of Alaska, she was running again THE MOST CORRUPT Republican in the history of that state and people wanted him out.... so did the public vote FOR PALIN or to be AGAINST HIM? Again with a population of only 650,000 in the entire state, we are not talking about that many votes (in numbers). Google her voting record while in the position for the last 20 months......do your research!!! I agree she is extremely "likeable" and she is extremely "relatable" as a wife + mother and business woman .... but until you research how she has handled the Alaskan BUDGET, do you want her making the decisions in Washington that have concerned our stock markets, etc??

  • IF it was not for the OIL in ALASKA, would she be getting the head nods of the "old boys network". Palin holds the KEY to something they want and she had to be embraced to get their needs met.

  • ABC News: Political Radar -- Did Palin Call Hillary Clinton a Whiner? http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalradar/2008/09/did-palin-call.html

  • And if it were not for all of this LIPSTICK, McCAIN would be in the spotlight.

  • Do you think there was any chance that McCain was looking for a way to deflect all of the media scrutiny away from him to a journalism major who can work the media like nobody else in politics?

  • ASK YOURSELF: Would MC CAIN (the man, his policies, his potential) be getting this sort of attention, or this sort of popularity without the LIPSTICK?

  • The recent financial disasters -- from the collapse of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to the historic drop in the stock market -- are not just a string of bad luck. They are the result of years of bad decisions made in favor of big corporate special interests instead of America's working families. Do you want to perpetuate the BUSH economic policies??

More than 600,000 Americans have lost their jobs since January; Home foreclosures are skyrocketing; and home values are plunging. Gas prices are at an all-time high, and we're still spending more than $10 billion every month on a war in Iraq that should never have been waged. (we were LIED to by BUSH)
This is no ordinary time, and it shouldn't be an ordinary election.

And now what do you think about the McCain/Palin campaign demanding a very different set of regulations for the vice presidential debate? IF there were a MALE VP nominee, who was from Alaska, would anyone be trying to level the playing fields, or would they be ready to throw the nominee in the deep water ready to see if will sink or swim! In their only debate on October 2, the amount of time granted to vice presidential nominees Joe Biden and Sarah Palin for a response will be shortened from the period used in the presidential debates (2minutes/answer/candidate, then 5-minutes to talk back/forth).

The reason for the new set of rules, according to sources cited by Times writer Patrick Healy, is because McCain advisers feel that Palin would be "at a disadvantage and largely on the defensive" due to her inexperience as a debater.

Common knowledge of the characterization of Palin as an inexperienced debater during these negotiations could be a useful tool for the McCain campaign, which would surely like to lower expectations for Palin ahead of the debate.

The media tends to judge a candidate's performance in a debate based on how much that candidate managed to exceed the media's expectations of their performance before the debate. Now considering that Palin is a MEDIA MADAM, wouldn't it be sheer manipulation to lower the media's expectation of her performance??

The truth may be that Palin is a great debater, but she just doesn't know WHAT she is talking about, hence, she is not ready to be a heartbeat away from being our Nation's Leader, or a Margaret Thatcher comparable.

33% of US Vice Presidents Become President - 25% by Inheritance

Posted on Sep 10, 2008 - 1:37am by John P. in Politics

Biden vs. PalinAs we consider the election of the next President of the United States, lets not forget that their Vice Presidential running mate, in this case Governor Sarah Palin and Senator Joe Biden, stand a 1 in 3 chance of eventually becoming president.

This is especially true in the case of John McCain given the fact that he'd be the oldest person to ever take office, were he elected. And in case you haven't noticed, Obama is half-black and there are some crazies running around who might not take kindly to a non-white President either.

Historically, there have been 14 Vice Presidents who ascended to the Presidency.

  • Five were elected
    1. John Adams was a two term vice president and one term president. Adams served as vice president for George Washington from 1789 to 1797, and served as president from 1797-1801.
    2. George Bush was a two term vice president and one term president. Bush served as vice president for Ronald Reagan from 1981-1989 and served as president from 1989-1993.
    3. Thomas Jefferson was the only person to serve one term as vice president [John Adams 1797-1801] and two terms as president, 1801 to 1809. In addition Jefferson was the only incumbent VP to run against an incumbent president.
    4. Martin Van Buren is the only person to serve one term in each capacity. He was vice president for Andrew Jackson, 1833 to 1837 and elected president from 1837-1841.
    5. Richard Nixon is the only person to serve two terms as Vice President and be elected to two terms as President. He was vice president for Dwight Eisenhower from 1953-1961, and elected president from 1969-1973. He won re-election but resigned from office on August 9, 1974.

  • Four inherited the office because of assassination
    1. Andrew Johnson for Abraham Lincoln in 1865
    2. Chester Arthur for James Garfield in 1881
    3. Theodore Roosevelt for William McKinley in 1901
    4. Lyndon Johnson for John Kennedy in 1963

  • Four inherited the office through the natural death of the incumbent
    1. John Tyler for William Henry Harrison in 1841
    2. Millard Fillmore for Zachary Taylor in 1850
    3. Calvin Coolidge for Warren Harding in 1923
    4. Harry Truman for Franklin Roosevelt in 1945

  • One became President due to resignation
    1. Gerald Ford was nominated to become Vice President after the resignation of Spiro Agnew in 1973, and then became President after the resignation of Nixon in 1974 - thus making Gerald Ford the only person to serve as Vice President and President without having been elected to either office.

The Twenty-fifth Amendment to the Constitution of the United States now permits the succeeding President to name a second in command upon the consent of the Senate.

This means that Sarah Palin or Joe Biden would be able to appoint their own VP without a popular vote, should either of them ascend to the Presidency.
