The Whirlpool Corporation plant on the Rutherford/Davidson county line in LaVergne, TN will be closing by the end of the year. Plans were announced last week to close the LaVergne plant as well as a plant in Reynosa, Mexico. The LaVergne plant currently manufactures built-in refrigerators. This production will be moved to the company's Fort Smith, Arkansas facility. Whirlpool Corp. is a leading manufacturer of home appliances under the Whirlpool, Amana, KitchenAid, and Maytag brand names. Whirlpool has been located in LaVergne since 1986. The company had previously announced in June 2007 the layoff of 330 employees when it phased out the production of air purifiers and dehumidifiers. At that time, the company said it had no plans to close the plant. This news comes at an especially hard time as LaVergne leads Rutherford county in the number of foreclosures.
I received a call last week from Jamey Tucker of WKRN News 2, the Nashville ABC affiliate, looking to interview some agents about the foreclosure market here in Nashville. He had read one of the posts on my Activerain blog discussing foreclosures in the Nashville area. I was excited and delighted to have interviewed and to have been featured on the local evening news. I have Activerain to thank first and foremost for the blog platform and the exposure. Check it out. Be sure to click on the video.
