Royal Oak, Mich. -- Gilda's Club Metro Detroit recently launched a new Young Adult Council, a network of young adult professionals who will help raise awareness and funds for the cancer support organization.
The Young Adult Council (YAC) kicks off fundraising efforts on Tuesday, April 15 from 6-9pm at Goodnight Gracie's in Royal Oak. A portion of the bar and food proceeds from Goodnight Gracie's and D'Amato's will benefit Gilda's Club. Local businesses have donated great raffle items, including gift certificates from The Yoga Shelter, Hanson's Running Shop, Creatopia Pottery, Shiraz restaurant and more.
Targeting ages 18-40, the Young Adult Council will focus on reaching out to young adults in Metro Detroit to promote the programs and services available at Gilda's Club for this population. The YAC also will encourage greater involvement in volunteerism and philanthropy through networking and fundraising events, special educational programs and other opportunities. Gilda's Club currently includes 89 young adult cancer survivors and 146 young adult family members in its 3,000-plus membership.
"We want to spread the word to all young adults who are battling cancer that they are not alone in their fight," said Corey Perlman, a Gilda's Club Young Adult's Council member. "This networking event will include some of metro Detroit's brightest and finest -- all getting together to create awareness for a great organization."
Membership to the Young Adult Council is open to any person ages 18-40 interested in supporting Gilda's Club. Members must commit to one year of volunteer service on the council. While two of the executive committee members are cancer survivors and members of Gilda's Club, it is not a requirement.
Gilda's Club Metro Detroit is a free, non-residential cancer support community for men,

women and children affected by cancer. The organization offers emotional and social support through programs such as support groups, educational programs, yoga, music and many other activities. Celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2008, Gilda's Club was named in honor of the late comedian and former Detroiter, Gilda Radner. Visit www.gildasclubdetroit.org for more information.
