Cobb Island, Maryland -- A Great Place to visit during the Summer or anytime!

I first visited Cobb Island in 1990 when I was invited to a family picnic where I met all of my future in-laws. My wife's family has had a summer home on the Potomac River since 1975. Cobb Island is a community that is made up of mostly single family homes and cottages. The residential population is split between full-time and part time residents. I always refer to Cobb Island as the "land that time forgot". It is quiet and peaceful, you can let your kids ride their bikes and not have to worry about traffic and riff raff. There's plenty of activities to do such as fishing, swimming , jet skis and the like. There's a small market, ice cream shop, coffee shop and post office on the island. There are a couple of restaurants . I recommend Captain John's for hard shell crabs and everything seafood. If you ever get the chance take a road trip to Cobb Island, it's at the southern tip of Charles County on the map. You won't be disappointed.

Calvert Marine Museum a community treasure in Calvert County

The Calvert Marine Museum has been putting together some pretty impressive summer concerts. This past summer's performers included, Pat Benatar, Jason Aldean, REO Speedwagon, Styx and many other big name acts. It's great to have a venue in Calvert County that can attract quality entertainment acts and the like. The Calvert Marine Museum also has plenty of other activities to enjoy year round. You can check out their calendar of events at: http://www.calvertmarinemuseum.com/calendar.php . If you check out their calendar you will notice that they run a promotion called "First Free Friday". On these days the museum will be open and free to the public from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. It looks like they also have free special events on these days as well for instance on October 1st the Drum Point Lighthouse will be open and there will be free cruises on the William B. Tennison. I definitely recommend checking out this treasure located at Solomon's Island in at the southern tip of Calvert County.
