Denver is celebrating their 150th Birthday this Saturday, November 22, 2008 at participating city venues! Enjoy free admission and a slice of birthday cake at the following: Colorado History Museum, Denver Zoo, Denver Botanic Gardens, Denver Performing Arts Complex and the Museum of Contemporary Art/Denver. You can also purchase greeting cards postmarked with a unique commemorative cancellation at select locations.
How did all begin? On November 22, 1858, Gen. William Larimer, a land speculator from eastern Kansas, placed cottonwood sticks on the hill overlooking the confluence of the South Platte River and Cherry Creek to stake a claim at the center of a square-mile town plat.
Now, 150 years later, Denver is the 21st largest metropolitan area in the United States! Happy Birthday Denver!

If an emergency was in your area and the authorities had to reach you, would you get the call?
The Larimer County Emergency Telephone Authority has installed a new Emergency Notification System, commonly called reverse 911.
So many people have done away with their land lines and only use a cell phone that they've had to change their emergency notification system. The inability to contact many people during this summer's tornado in Windsor pointed out how we need to do something different. This is the first system of it's kind in Colorado.
If they can reach you, they can alert you! The Emergency Notification System will allow Emergency Services to notify you when there is a potential or imminent threat to life or property. This may include wildfire, flood, tornado, public health emergency or critical police activity.
This new system automatically calls all of the traditional 'land lines' in the county. But if you have no land line, your contact information is NOT in the ENS data base.
It is now possible to be notified through a cell phone, by text messaging, and by e-mail.
HOWEVER, YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR CONTACT INFORMATION IF YOU WANT TO BE NOTIFIED THROUGH THESE OPTIONS. You may also sign up to add your business phone to the notification list.
If you have a land line, that number is already in the database, but you must register for the other options.
To sign up for emergency notifications, go to http://www.leta911.org/
