The Recognition..
Wow - This place is beautiful. That's what came to mind while driving home from work one day. After turning a familiar corner, my Jeep started down a long hill. I glanced to the right and there it was; an absolutely stunning view of Cayuga Lake.

I started to think about all the personal benefits of living here. Our lakes provide the enjoyment of boating, camping, fishing, and BBQ's. The views afford us with magnificent settings for dinner parties, weddings, and banquets. The list goes on and on. All those times my out of town guests would comment on the serenity finally sunk in. It only took 30 years!

Taking It For Granted...
How could I be so unappreciative? Maybe it's a case of being spoiled. Any one of our lakes or parks would be a main attraction in most places. In the Finger Lakes, they are just a part of the endless sites of natural beauty. I would put our lakes up against any place in the world. We are truly blessed to live here.

It is here that you will find the historic village of Seneca Falls (Birthplace of Women's Rights). Seneca Falls residents claim their town is the inspiration for the Christmas classic "It's A Wonderful Life". At a minimum, I can testify that living on Cayuga Lake is truly a wonderful life. The shore is lined with a mix of seasonal cottages and gorgeous year round homes. Although the lake is large, the water stays fairly calm. Not even a ripple on some days. Weekends are busy with boaters and weekdays are often quiet. Cayuga Lake really does have something for everyone.

Wineries
You will find some excellent wineries on the northwest end of Cayuga Lake including Goose Watch and Swedish Hill. Swedish Hill has already won 38 gold metals in 2008. This includes some from international competitions on the west coast. Cindy and Dick Peterson own both of these award wining wineries. The Peterson's are examples of the great people that live in our communities. They graciously provide their scenic Goose Watch lawn for an annual charitable event put on by the Seneca Falls Rotary Club. swedishhill.com | goosewatch.com

Restaurants
There are a number of good restaurants, but I would recommend two. The Deerhead Innoffers lake view dining and has been around forever. It's my three year old's favorite place to go, although I think he just likes saying the name. The Dearhead is a local favorite. Make sure you try the shrimp cocktail. The other is called Henry B's. This is an upscale Italian restaurant located in the village of Seneca Falls. It's truly a great experience with even better food. This is one of my personal favorites. deerheadlakeside.com | henrybs.com

Fishing Scoop
Cayuga Lake is a very diverse fishery. Several bass tournaments are held on the lake. There is also a very healthy population of Pickerel and Northern Pike. Early May can be unbelievable for Northerns and Pickerel. This month also boasts a great fishery for yellow perch.

Year round fishing is available for Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Landlocked Atlantic Salmon and Brown Trout. In April Rainbow Trout can be found in the streams on there spawning runs. The Atlantics and Browns can be found in the streams in October and November. The average size is 3-5 pounds with fish caught in the 10-15 pounds on rare occasions. Our largest is a 16 lb Brown Trout.

Cayuga Lake is a great fishery and the waters are rated AA to boot! AA is the highest rating for New York. At one point Cayuga Lake was in the top 20 & Skaneateles Lake was Number 5 in the world.
