Decorated trees, wreaths and hand-painted ornaments by local artists will deck the halls of the SC State Museum for a silent auction for the AIDS Benefit Foundation of South Carolina. Saturday, November 21. Snakes of South Carolina! Join us at Sesquicentennial State Park to find out more about the fascinating lives of snakes. Participants will uncover local myths associated with our slithering friends and discover what makes them so helpful to humans and the environment. We will learn some cool facts about these amazing reptiles and how to recognize the six venomous snakes in the Palmetto State. This program is designed for ages 5 and older and all children must be accompanied by an adult. 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM. Pre-registration is required. Beginning Sunday, November 22. "This Man Called Jesus". "This Man Called Jesus" is a Christmas drama that draws thousands each year and it's back for the 22nd year! This is a free, must-see holiday event presented by a costumed cast of over 405 with live animals, inspiring music, drama, awesome sound effects and lighting. The performance on November 22 is especially for the deaf, handicapped and special needs as ASL interpreters will be available for this performance. Sunday, November 22. Black & White Masquerade Ball. In our efforts to promote National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will honor some of the Midlands’ Breast Cancer Survivors at the “BCA Black & White Masquerade Ball”. The ball will be held at the River Center, 5605 Bush River Road. Please join Deep Productions & Film in conjunction with the American Cancer Society, Celebrity Status Unlimited, New Miracles, and Southeastern School of the Arts (SESOA) in the celebration surviving life after cancer. Thursday, November 26. Turkey Day Run! Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands hosts this 5th annual 8K & 3K Turkey Day Run on Thanksgiving Day! Both races will support the 31 area Boys & Girls Clubs of the Midlands. Both races begin and end at the Colonial Life Arena at 801 Lincoln Street. The 8K course, which is USA Track & Field Certified, will take runners and walkers through downtown Columbia, across two bridges and through West Columbia and Cayce, where participants will enjoy views of the Columbia skyline. Pre-registered runners and walkers will receive an official race t-shirt, and 3K runners/walkers receive participation ribbons. 8K participants in various categories will receive awards and male and female overall winners will receive gift certificates.
