I Am a Girl Scout: Peninsula Leadership Luncheon

Friday afternoon I had the privilege of attending the Girl Scout's 2009 Peninsula Leadership Luncheon held at the Bremerton Conference Center in downtown Bremerton.

It was a delight to see one troop of girls model the past Girl Scout uniforms, watch the girls present the flags and I was even able to recite the scout promise from memory after all these years:

girl scout program

"On my honor I will try:

To serve God and my country

To help people at all time,

And to live by the Girl Scout Law"

Reciting that pledge brought back many happy memories and those memories were reinforced as the Delilah, syndicated radio personality, Debbie Macomber, New York Times best selling author, Elisabeth Furman, Gold Award Winner troop #412226. Each shared how Girl Scouts changed, shaped and directed their lives. I could relate to the things the spoke about and what we learned in the Girl Scouts; leadership, the importance of community involvement, working together towards a common goal, not to mention the fun we had learning all along!

Today, May 9, 2009 is the Grand Opening of the Peninsula Girl Scout Program Center. 1600 NE Winters Road in Bremerton off of Hwy 303.

I encourage you to show your support, by visiting from 2-4pm. You can also visit www.GirlScoutsWW@org to learn more

An alternate celebration will be held on June 20th for people who are unable to join today's celebration due to the Hood Canal Bridge closure.
