DFW Home Prices Are Low Compared to Many Other Major Metro Areas
Compared to many other large metro areas, the Dallas-Fort Worth area offers some of the most affordable home prices in the United States.
For purposes of this article, I am going to focus on home prices in the four largest cities (Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano) in Collin county.
The average sales price per square foot for homes in Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano are as follows:
$90 average sale price per square foot for Allen homes
$97 average sales price per square foot for Frisco homes
$84 average sales price per square foot for McKinney homes
$98 average sales price per square foot Plano homes
The median sales prices for homes in Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano are as follows:
$198,200 median sales price for Allen homes
$230,000 median sales price for Frisco homes
$185,000 median sales price for McKinney homes
$218,000 median sales price for Plano homes
If you are considering relocating to North Texas, then I think you will be pleased with our home prices. I think you will especially pleased if you are relocating from one of the major East or West coast cities. Homes prices in North Texas are significantly lower than many major cities on the East and West coasts.

DFW International Airport (DFW) is one of the major economic engines that fuels North Texas’ growth. Since DFW Airport opened in 1974, North Texas’ population has increased from approximately 2.5 million people to about 6.0 million people. The Allen, Frisco, McKinney and Plano homes and real estate markets owe at least some of their growth to the fact that North Texas has a world-class airport.
After DFW opened, many corporations relocated to North Texas. Some of the major corporate relocations to North Texas include: ExxonMobil, American Airlines, JC Penney and Comerica Bank. Being able to operate in the Central time zone and having access to a major international airport are two important reasons why corporations keep relocating to North Texas.
According to a 2007 study by the Texas Department of Transportation, DFW’s annual economic impact has grown to more than $16.6 billion. The study also indicated that DFW and its associated businesses provide about 305,000 jobs and more than $7 billion in annual payroll to the North Texas economy.
Some interesting facts about DFW are as follows:
-7 runways ranging in length from 9,000 feet to 13, 400 feet.
-Annual passengers 59,784,876
-Annual Aircraft operations 684,779
-Consistently one of the top 5 busiest airports in the world in terms of aircraft movements.
-In terms of land area, DFW owns 18,076 acres. It is the second largest airport in the United States in terms of land area. It contains more land area than Manhattan, New York.
-3 control towers.
-The airport operates like a small city. It has its own zip code. The United States Postal Services has given the airport a city designation (DFW Airport, TX) for mail purposes.
-The Skylink (light rail) people mover system opened in 2005. It is one of the world’s largest high-speed airport train systems. Skylink provides transportation between the five terminal buildings.
As a resident of North Texas since 1982, it has been amazing to watch the growth of DFW Airport and the impact the Airport has had on the North Texas region. North Texans are fortunate to have easy access to nonstop air travel to most major domestic destinations and many international destinations.
