Saturday February 21st Rate of Motion Elite traveled to the campus of the University of Kentucky for the 16th Annual High School Invitational Meet at Nutter Field House.

Nutter Fieldhouse UK

The meet was a great venue with some impressive competition. Georgia's own Shalonda Goodman was there as well as some top athletes from other parts of the East.
We arrived in Lexington Friday evening and the athletes got a chance to get a look and feel for this track.

We stayed at the Sleep Inn Friday night which was a great Hotel and much thanks to Ms. La-Tavia for booking it, it was great.
We arrived at Nutter Field house at 11:00am and were pleased to see that Ms. Claudia, Chris, Jasmine and Aliyah Abrams had made the 6 hour trek to be with us.

Before going into the details of the day every athlete who ran performed a personal best in their event(s). Which is super since ever athlete has performed a PR for almost every meet for this indoor season. Big KUDOS to team for that big accomplishment.

The day began with the 60M hurdles which Precious Harrison and Lexi Sheilds compete in. Lexi ran a PR of 10.47 and 2 tenths faster than her last meet and Precious ran a time of 12.51 which is also a PR for her as well.

Next was the 60m Dash, Travey Sinclair, Cortez Johnson, Kevin Gary, Keenon Johnson and Derrick Brown competed

Travey and Cortez came in first in their heats and 7 and 9th in the final:
7 Sinclair, Travey 12 Rate of Motn -GA 7.02D
9 Johnson, Cortez 12 Rate of Motn -GA 7.03D 7.0251
Kevin Gary ran a time of 7.38.
Keenon Johnson ran a time of 7.67 a PR.
Derrick Brown choose not to run.

The next event was the girls 400M which DeShaun Simmons who ran a PR of 1:00.42. That is 2 seconds faster than her time just 2 weeks ago and a very impressive accomplishment. Another note a coach for Middle Tennessee State told her he liked the way she runs gave her is card, stay tuned.

In the Boys 400M we had 4 competitors. Roodgery Rosember and Travey Sincair ran 50.67 and 50.07 and they came in first in their heats.
1 Rosemberg, Roodgery 12 Rate of Motn -GA 50.67N
1 Sinclair, Travey 12 Rate of Motn -GA 50.70N
Kevin Gary ran 51.24 and a Season Best and ran his race the way we are use to seeing him run.
Mark Watts came in second in his heat behind Roo with a time of 51.29 and took almost a second off his 400m time in a two week period which is great.

In the girls 200M dash Clarissa Williams ran a PR of 26.75 and came in 3rd in her heat. This time was a PR for Clarissa.

In the boys 200M dash Kevin Gary came in 3rd in his heat with a time of 22.92. Travey Sinclair came in 2nd in his heat with a time of 22.93.

The last event of the day was the 4x800 relay. Rate of Motion had a team eager to show everybody there what they could do. The team was lead by start off leg Mark Watts who got out and ran a great first leg leading the pack for most of the first lap, he then handed off to Jameel Greenidge who ran a great 2nd lap and with great skill moved from the back of the pack to the middle over taking one oppoent after another. He then handed off to Ahmed Higgins who continued to move up and over take opponent's. When Ahmed handed off to our 4th leg Roodgery Rosemberg who was in 5th place when he recieved the baton. He ran a great race and was going into the finaly 200 meters when he got tripped up and fell spraining his ankle. He attempted to regain his feet twice to finish the race but was unable to do so. He was disappointed and felt he had let down the team, we told him we weren't concerned about the relay we were concerned with making sure he was ok. Roo demonstrated in the face of defeat what it means to have the heart of a champion and the soul of leader. Coach Moss and I at the beginning of the season designated Roo as the leader of the team and he demonstrated why we did on Saturday. The team rallied to his side and helped to cheer his spirit and make sure he was ok physically and mentally.

We have 6 athletes that have qualified to go to New York City in March and compete in the National Scholastic Indoor Meet. Many of our athletes will now begin high school competition with their high school teams. We have a few athletes that will continue to train with us during the high school season and attend some meets like the Florida Pepsi Relays, Morehouse Relays and the Penn Relays just to name a few.

We will begin training for the summer outdoor season April 13, 2009 at 4:00 at South Gwinnett high school.

Stay tuned we will be announcing our 2009 Indoor Awards Banquet to recognize all those who participated in the Indoor Season as well as recognize some outstanding personal achievements.

Thank you so much for you continued support and we look forward to seeing our athletes soar with their high school teams and look forward to the summer season also.

Thanks Coach Robison and Coach Moss

Hello everyone,

The Jimmy Carnes Invitational is now in the books and it was a great day for Rate of Motion Elite. Everybody surpassed their previous weeks performance and turned a few heads in the process.

The “O” Center’s 200m track at the University of Florida was the venue and it was an exciting day.

In the 200m we had some outstanding performances starting with Travey Sinclair. Travey ran a time of 22.65 and received a silver medal. Kevin Gary came in 9th overall with a time of 23.55. Derrick Brown ran a time of 23.79 and Cortez Johnson ran a time of 24.29

The girls did very well also. Clarissa Williams ran a time of 26.80 and won her heat and was 8th overall. Deshaun Simmons who was 9th overall ran a time of 26.84 and won her heat as well. Taylor Rencher ran a time of 27.89 and came in 3rd in her heat. Quandra Shanks ran 28.78 and Aliyah Abrams due to a clerical error had to run in the 17-18 age group and ran all by herself with a time of 30.74.

In the 400 meters everyone was impressive but we have to start with the girls who showed out. Aliyah Williams who had to run with 17-18 year old girls ran with Deshaun Simmons and ran a time of 1:02.88 which is almost half second faster than her previous week’s time, she finished 2nd in that heat behind DeShaun. They got Aliyah input correctly into her age group and she won her age group and a gold medal and was almost

2 seconds ahead of everyone in her age group. DeShaun Simmons won her heat and time of 1:02.43 and an overall place of 5th out of 16. Clarissa Williams running her first open 400, cam in 1st and ran an impressive time of 1:04.04 and placed 7th overall. Quandra Shanks ran a time of 1:04.28. Taylor Rencher ran a time of 1:06.52 and came in first in her heat. Precious Harrison ran a time of 1:16.46.

Now the boys. We have to start with Mark Watts who ran an impressive 52.09, second in his heat and 4th overall and almost stumbled 10 meters before crossing the finish line. He was 4th overall out of 39 boys. Roo Rosemberg ran an impressive time of 51.95 and 6th place overall out of 48. Jameel Greenidge and Kevin Gary ran times of 53.44 and 53.57 respectively and placed 14th an 15th overall. Ahmed Higgins ran a time 54.56 and placed 1st in his heat. Chris Abrams ran a time of 54.88 and placed 2nd in his heat.

At 800 meters it was an interesting and scary day all in the same race. Mark Watts shaved almost 5 seconds off his time and ran a 2:11.55 and placed 7th overall in his age group. Ahmed Higgins ran a time of 2.:12.87. Jameel Greenidge also ran the 800 and on the back curve on the final lap grabbed his chest and ran off the track and crumbled up in a ball. Ms Claudia was the first on the scene to render aid and was able to get the emergency personnel over to assist him. It was okay Jameel had a mild asthma attack. We are glad he is okay but he sure gave us a scare.

Quandra Shanks ran a time of 2:36.37 and Aliyah Abrams we are still trying to get her official time and place fixed. She had to run the 800 in the 17-18 age group. We wil update everyone once they get everything straightened out.

In the 55m Taylor Rencher ran a time of 7.95, placed 1st in her heat and 9th overall out of 27. DeShaun Simmons ran a time of 7.73 and 10th place overall. Clarissa Williams ran a time of 7.74 and placed 11th overall.

For the boys we had a great race. Travey Sinclair blazed down the 55m straight away running a time of 6.56 and got a bronze medal. Cortez Johnson running in his first indoor meet of the season ran a 6.69 and a 5th place overall. Derrick Brown ran a time of 6.80 and tied for 8th place overall with 2 other guys. Kevin Gary ran a time of 6.91 and placed 15th overall out of 41. A great showing for Rate of Motion Elite in the 55m with all of them finishing in the top 3rd or better.

The last event of the day for the Youth meet was the 55m Hurdles with Lexi Shields running a time of 9.71.

It was a great meet and very exciting to watch and I know the kids feel really good about how they did and the progress they are making.

Coach Moss ran the 55m and the 200m in the Open Division and did very well.

Our next meet will be the University of Kentucky High School Invitation on the 21st of February. We will be leaving for that meet about 4pm.

Ms. La-Tavia is getting the information together for the cost to go and we will be getting that out to everyone just as soon as its available.

We are going to have a meeting for all parents this week to discuss some fund raising options to raise money for the New York meet. We need all parents to make time to come to this meeting. This will also be a good time to talk about getting ready for the summer outdoor season which will begin after the Georgia Girls and Boys State meets. We will let everyone know for sure when the meeting will be but it looks like Sunday is probably going to be the best day.

The meet fee for the Kentucky meet is going to be $10/athlete per event limit to 3 events. If they are running a relay it is an extra $5 per athlete.

We were very excited about what we saw Saturday and look forward to seeing everybody do it again on the 21st.

Thanks

Roo, Kevin chekcing out their heats at the East Tennessee Meet

Hi Everyone,

Its Sunday morning (early) and we wanted to update everyone on the results of the KTC Indoor Track Classic. The kids performed well and we are pleased by what we saw Friday and yesterday.

The Boys A team 4x400 Roodgery Rosemberg, Travey Sinclair, Jameel Greenidge and Kevin Gary came in 8th overall out of 22 teams with a time of 3:29.12 and qualified to run at the National Scholastic Meet in New York on March 13th. The Boys B team Ahmed Higgins, Chris Abrams, Keenon Johnson-Keeno, and Mark Watts came in 14th overall and ran 3:39.85. The Girls 4x400 Precious Harrison, Aliyah Abrams, Quandra Shanks, Taylor Rencher did well also and ran 4:16.67.

In the 800m race the Boys and Girls executed well their game plan for the race but also discovered how competive the 800m is when running it with athletes from all around the Southeast. From the Girls Quandra ran her first indoor race against high school girls and ran 2:32.86. Aliyah Abrams ran her first 800 every and ran a time of 2:59.79.

On the Boys side Roo came in 19th out of 79 and ran 2:07.85., Ahmed ran a time of 2:10.82, Jameel came in with a time of 2:13.34 which is incredible after being spiked and falling down and getting right back up and back into the race. Chris ran a time 2:14.09 and this is his first 800 and is a great start. Mark ran 2:16.09 and performed well.

In the Girls 60m Hurdles Precious and Lexi both performed well in spite of first indoor meet jitters. Lexi ran 10.62. Precious did well and finished even after falling.

The Girls looked good in the 60m Dash, Deshaun Simmons came in 19th out of 77 with a time of 8.14, Clarissa came in 25th with a time 8.23, Taylor ran a time of 8.71.

The Boys were equally as impressive Travey tied for 8th place overall out of 104 and ran 7.12, Kevin came in 31st overall and ran 7.36, CJ ran a 7.60, Keenan running for the first time ran a 7.67, and Joshua running in his first meet ever indoor or outdoor ran 8.68.

In the girls 400m, high school girls better take note Aliyah came in 38th out of 89, ran a 63.59, came in 1st in her heat, and is only in the 6th grade. Quandra came in 39th overall ran a 63.67 and she is in the 8th grade. Taylor who is a freshman and running in her first indoor meet also ran well with a time of 67.69.

The Boys 400m Travey came in 9th out of 127 and first in his heat with a time of 51.07, Mark came in 31 overall with a time of 52.61, Jameel running his first American indoor 400 came in 41st and ran a time of 52.97, Kevin running his first indoor 400m ran a 53.07, and Keenan running his first time indoor ran 56.63.

The kids did well and we are extremely proud of their performances and how they acted.

Indoor track is very different from either high school or summer outdoor and it does present some unique challenges such as a 400m race that resembles something more akin to a very aggressive 800m races as several of the boys can attest to the spike marks on their calves. The atmosphere is also different not just because it is indoors but the order of events the limited space to warm up, having to be creative about getting warm and staying warm and running on a 283m track and other nuances. The kids are where we expected them to be and their performances were inline with what we expected for this stage of the indoor season plus it was all but 1 athletes first time participating in an indoor meet.

Next Saturday is the University of Florida and a 200m track.

A bit of housekeeping the cost for the Florida meet is going to be $22 registration fee which we have to have by Tomorrow that is the deadline. We can register kids after tomorrow but it is $32.

The cost for the hotel will be $55 per Athlete which we will need when we leave on Friday. We have figured $20 for food for Saturday and Sunday. We will leave 5pm on Friday and will arrive back into Snellville Sunday afternoon. For any parents planning to go we encourage it and if you are planning to stay in the hotel with us you will probably have at least 2 other athletes in the room with you and we will give you those athletes money for that room. Ms. La-Tavia booked our rooms at $55 a night and we will be staying Friday and Saturday nights.

I know money is tight for everybody and if you do not have the money to allow your child to go to this meet we do understand and just let us know.

When we get to summer outdoor season it is not quite so expensive early on because all of the meets are here in Atlanta. If the kids advance to Region or Junior Olympics there is some additional cost because we have to go out of state.

Based on what we saw at this meet and what we expect to see for the rest of indoor season the kids will have a very successful high school outdoor season.

Stay tuned for results from the 2009 Jimmy Carnes Indoor Track and Field Meet.
