Many folks have heard of the "Biggest Little City In The World" but few know or realize that the Truckee River runs through it. That's right, right smack dab in the middle of the downtown area and a stone's throw from most of Reno's well known casinos is the Truckee River.
Reno is full of many pleasant surprises; but for today let me give you a brief introduction to my town.
Little needs to be said about its great entertainment as the City has built quite a reputation on the glitz and glamour of its gaming and night life. However, there is another side of Reno - it is a great place for families. The schools are great and family activities abound from urban to wilderness.
Reno is also a University town, another little known fact. One of the things that make a city a desirable place to live is the advantage of a college/university in the vicinity. Residents are able to enjoy concerts, lectures and other college public events including exciting college sports. I think having a university in town keeps the City young and forward thinking.
With our business-friendly government and tax structure, Reno is also a great choice for businesses and retirees.
Reno has wonderful weather. Although we experience all four seasons, we enjoy a rather moderate climate. We usually have a white Christmas but for the most part our snowfall is light. Since we are a high desert city, summers are warm. However, we do not experience the extreme heats of the desert. Our weather does give us the benefit of being able to enjoy all the outdoor activities; from skiing in Lake Tahoe to fishing in the Truckee River.
Reno became famous as the "Silver City". Today it remains famous for its gaming; but there is a new Reno emerging with a new kind of fame. It is the Reno of Adventure, Art, Education and Quality Living.
