The Lafayette Parade of homes is in full force...As a Real Estate agent in Lafayette In, I have the luxury of pre-viewing a lot of homes. There is something special that happens when you walk into new construction....It just appeals to the senses!!

This years Lafayette Parade of homes features a wide variety of builders. They are Habitat for Humanity, Majestic Homes, Grey Goose Homes, Milakis Custom Homes, Komark, Keene Homes, Citation Homes, Epcon Communities, JL Builders and Tempest Homes.

The Lafayette Parade of homes is very exciting this year.. Mainly do to the huge leap in style. Typically a certain trend can last 5 years, so I am amazed how dramatic the changes are simply in 3 years...On the cosmetic front it seems that most builders are going with a darker Mocha color on the kitchen cabinets. We are seeing that granite is becoming a standard in the homes $250,000 and up, as well as engineered wood floors. Now behind the drywall it seams that most builders are doing a better job insulating and sealing the new homes. By sealing the home the builder relies on the mechanical systems to do what they were designed to do...not only heat and cool the house, but also control air circulation. And since we are parked here lets talk GREEN!!! Now there are energy star ratings and than there are Green Homes.. First I would like to talk Energy Star. This is a joint program of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy helping us all save money and protect the environment through energy efficient products and practices.Energy efficient choices can save families about a third on their energy bill with similar savings of greenhouse gas emissions, without sacrificing features, style or comfort. ENERGY STAR helps you make the energy efficient choice.-Got that from the energy Star Website;) This seems to be a min requirement for builders anymore. The National Association of Home Builders says that a Green builder or remodeler must incorporate a minimum number of features in the following areas: lot and site development; energy, water, and resource efficiency; indoor environmental quality; and home owner education. There is also a scoring system for “green projects”. Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Emerald - allow builders to quantify and qualify green building at all levels. At the Emerald level, the highest rating for a residential green building, a building must incorporate energy savings of 60% or more.
