Relocating to Houston?

Are you relocating to the Houston area? You might be surprised at just how spread out Houston is. With all of the suburbs and small towns surrounding the city, it can take an hour and a half or two hours to drive from one end to the other, even on the freeways.

Many people who move here don't know where they want to live. They may have heard about areas such as The Woodlands, Spring, Kingwood, Katy, Sugar Land, Richmond, Pearland, Friendswood, Clear Lake or League City. But they don't know how close those areas are to their new jobs, or which areas have good schools and safe neighborhoods.

If you are relocating to the Houston area, I will be happy to send you a free relocation guide for different parts of town. If you'll tell me where you are going to be working, I can suggest areas that would be convenient, and with nice neighborhoods for your family. I'll help you find information about local schools and will show you the easiest routes to your new job from various neighborhoods.

Give me a call or shoot me an email! I'll help you find the best area of town to meet your needs!

I hope I can take pictures of my listings, blanketed in SNOW!

Here in Houston the weatherman has predicted an 80 percent chance of snow tonight and tomorrow morning. Well, it's mighty cold outside, but no snow yet. I am thinking the weatherman was overly enthusiastic about the possibility. I hope it does snow, however, because I am looking forward to taking pictures of my listings with snow-covered rooftops and yards. It will be a little something different to show potential buyers since it almost never snows here. Those pictures would even make nice gifts for the new owners. That way, even if it doesn't snow in the Houston area for another ten years, they could see what their new house looks like blanketed in snow.

Still watching out the window and hoping to see some snowflakes!

Networking with Christian Women in Pearland

Stonecroft Women is a group of women who meet regularly for lunch and friendship at Golfcrest Country Club in Pearland. They always have a guest speaker who presents an inspirational and sometimes funny message about Christian life. Meetings include time for networking and shopping with vendors who have booths set up to sell unique clothing, purses, jewelry, home décor, make-up and many other items.

The next luncheon will be on March 17. Networking and shopping will begin at 10:30 and lunch will be served at 11:30. The cost for lunch is $16, payable at the door.

The guest speaker for the next meeting will be Angela Smith, former contestant in the Miss Texas Pageant, and a former Houston Oilers and Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader.

For information, or to make a reservation, you can contact Rose King at 713-562-5888.

The Little Orange Guy

This little orange guy comes to my backyard every morning and looks in the back door, waiting to be fed.

My Daily Visitor

He's healthy and seems to be well-cared for (except that he is not neutered), and very, very friendly. I usually put out a little bit of food for him, but I have noticed that what he really wants is something to drink. I will mix a little dry food in with some water, and he will drink all of the water and leave the food.

Our big orange cat, Leo, doesn't like it when the little orange guy comes to the back door. Leo will fuss and whine when the little orange guy comes, but he won't go outside to chase him off. They just end up looking at each other through the door.

I haven't found the owner of the little orange guy yet. I think he lives on the street behind me because he always comes and goes over the back fence. If I can't find the owner, I may just have to adopt this little cutie!

Did you pay too much for your home?

Lately I have had several homeowners contact me about selling their homes. Some were in a situation where they paid too much for their homes just a few years ago, and will likely lose money when they sell. There are several situations when a homebuyer may have paid too much, but here is what I run into most often:

You bought it without the assistance of a Realtor. If you bought your house from a friend or relative who had the house priced at what he thought was a good price, you may have paid too much. A Realtor can help you determine the fair market value of a home to insure that you are paying the right price. Just because your friend's uncle says a house is worth a certain amount, doesn't mean that the price is right. Trust your Realtor to help you.

You bought your house brand new from the builder's sales representative in the model home, without the help of a Realtor. You probably paid list price. The salesperson in the model home works for the builder and his/her job is to sell the house for the highest possible price. A Realtor will help you negotiate a better price, more upgrades and even bigger contributions to your closing costs. Again, trust your Realtor to help you.

You called the agent listed on the "For Sale" sign and bought the house without your own buyer's agent to represent you. Once again, the listing agent represents the seller and must try to sell the house for the highest amount possible. Having your own buyer's agent will insure that you have all of the information you need to negotiate a good price. Trust your Realtor to help you!

If you find yourself in a situation where you paid too much for your home, and need to sell it, contact a good Realtor to discuss your options.
