Historic downtown Northville, Michigan

Downtown Northville Michigan is about 30 miles from Ann Arbor and 30 miles from Detroit Michigan.  It was first settled in the early 1800's and became a formal village in 1867.  It took over a hundred years for Northville to become a city in 1972.

Each summer the city holds a nice Arts and Craft show called "Art in the Sun", A Victorian Festival in the fall.  And Northville and the surrounding Victorian homes come alive for Halloween.  A great place for kids to trick or treat and enjoy the festivities.

The Rouge River runs right through downtown Northville Michigan .  The city itself is only 2.2 square miles and has 6500 residents.  Nestled in the rolling hills it is a beautiful town year round.  It is not a large downtown only a few blocks but it is a vibrant area with people shopping and enjoying the restaurants.

Marquis theater, Northville MI www.russravary.com  The MARQUIS THEATRE shown to the left  and above was built in 1925 for the price of $150,000.  A $13,000 pipe organ was shipped from Germany.  The theater is still used for live performances today.  On the back of the building they have painted an enormous flag in remembrance of 9/11.

Northville has tried to keep it's old time charm by brick paving some of the sidewalks and streets.  They have taken the steps of preserving the city's history with the Mill Race Historical Village and some laws protecting historical homes.  Mill Race Historical Village sits on 11 acres donated by Ford Motor Company.  There are 8 historical buildings in the village that include a church, a school, an inn, a blacksmith shop, and 3 Victorian homes.  The historical village is surrounded by water on 3 sides and has an old style bridge that spans the Rouge River.

Many Michigan home buyers love Northville and it's historic Victorian homes.  Some residents take great pride in restoring this homes to their ageless beauty.  Some of the Victorian homes fetch between $200 to $300 a square foot.Yerkes victorian home, Northville, Mi www.RussRavary.com  This home belonged to one of the early residents (the Yerke family) of Northville.  This home was moved to Mill Race Historical Village in 1972,  Note the beautiful woodwork.

If you are thinking of relocating to Michigan and want a vibrant small downtown that has restaurants, and shops then take a look at Northville, MI.  It close enough to big city conveniences with the charm of a small town.  Other close towns that you may want to look at include Canton, Livonia, Northville Township, Plymouth Twp , and Novi.  If you need more Southeastern real estate information for your Michigan relocation go to my website www.RussRavary.com
