Hidden Harbour is located in Springfield Township near Toledo, Maumee, Monclova, and Sylvania. It boasts a 50 acre lake with an adjoining 5 acre lake. Boating (with electric engines only), fishing, swimming, sailing, kyaking, etc. are all enjoyed iin the summer months.

4th of July at Hidden Harbour in Springfield Township is a really big deal. Fireworks are enjoyed by boat or from you porch when Springfield Township puts on their show.

Have you ever looked at a map showing how big Springfield Township in Lucas County really is?

Springfield Township encompasses 21.6 miles and is located between Maumee and Sylvania Ohio. As of the year 2000 there were 24,123 people living in this area and has surely grown since that time.

What's great about living in this area? For me it's ease of getting around both here and around the Toledo, Ohio area. There are two really nice small parks in Springfield Township. The first is Strawberry Acres located at McCord and Angola. This park offers walking, picnicking, a children's playground, and has many trees that make it a great place to be when the summer gets warm. Also, just down Angola from there is Homecoming Park. This park offers many soccer fields, baseball fields, an open covered area for entertaining, and a pond at the back of the park. Right across from Homecoming Park is Hidden Harbour where I live. Hidden Harbour offers homes and condominiums--most of which are located on a 50 acre lake and a 5 acre lake with a canal in between. Also there is Moon Lake where all the homes are facing the lake.

Living in this area is great. Toledo Express Airport is just minutes away, Springfield Mall offers many top name stores, motels, a movie theater, Route 475 is a loop to I-75 and Route 23. We do have many trains that go in and out of this area but they generally move so fast it is not an inconvenience.

Living in Springfield Township (Holland, Ohio) offers parks that are great for walking, biking, picnicking, and children's playground activities such as Strawberry Acres located at McCord & Angola in the heart of the village of Holland, Ohio. There's also Homecoming Park just down the road (on Angola) from Strawberry Acres that offers many soccer field, baseball fields, a open pavilion for parties, and a lake at the back of the property.

In addition, there is Toledo Express Airport which takes just minutes to get to and is easily accessible from either Airport Highway or the Ohio Turnpike which has an exit right at the airport. We have lots of trains that go through this area but they (usually) are traveling so fast both going in and out that you are not inconvenienced by having to wait for a long time.

Spring is really almost here and in just a short time I will be telling you about how where I live at Hidden Harbour the boats are again being put in the water and more people are out and about. Living in this area is great. I love the diversity of the neighborhoods, the people, the ease of getting everywhere (and that includes the Toledo, Ohio area) and the friendliness of everyone I meet.

For those of you who live in Holland, Ohio (as I have since 1994) you are aware of the planes, trains, and automobiles. Did you know how Holland got its name and the stories behind it naming?

Holland, Ohio is said to have gotten its name from two different stories. The first story is that in the 1850's people were digging canals to divert the swamp watter. These canals reminded the people of the canals of Holland. The other story is about Franklin Hall who was a local builder at that time. Franklin Hall, as the story goes, was platting some land for the building of homes when he asked the clerk, or official at that time, to record then as Hall Land. The official misunderstood and recorded the plats as Holland thus the name we have today.

In the 1850's the railroad built tracks between Toledo and Chicago which went through Holland, Ohio. By1880 Holland's population had grown to 230 people and the railroad's freight traffic increasing 20 times and the number of passengers increasing by 400%. The census of 2000 shows Holland to have a population of 1,306 people, 522 households, and 292 families residing in the Village of Holland.

Today Holland is known for Strawberry Acres Park and its walking trails and playground area. Holland along with Springfield Township are working to establish a Rail Parkto be located at Clarion and Front Streets at the Norfolk Southern tracks. Holland is a strong and vibrant community located near Toledo Express Airport, I-475, and the Ohio Turnpike.
