Speechless Sunday ++++ A Sea of Coreopsis

Galveston cemetary in a sea of coreopsis . . . wild flowers certainly provide natural beauty for life's journey. I was driving down 61st Street on my way to the beach and saw masses and masses of wildflowers enveloping the cemetary with their yellow and green beauty. I just had to pull over and luckily I had my camera with me!

But I don't like being the center of attention . . .

I decided to get my R.E. license after my husband had a lay-off scare, and those were 3 really long, awful weeks. I was working with kids, subbing and teaching art, and became sick twice during the school year for a month each time. Two months vanished from my life. And no way my income could support us. Decided to pursue another type of business.

I signed up for some local r.e. classes to get my license, but was terrified because I am not a natural born salesperson. The instructor was entertaining and that made the classes fun. But, what I found really valuable was the break time when we got to talk amongst ourselves. Met some folks, both would-be-agents like myself and licensed agents, that I still keep in touch with. Passed my exam but had to locate a broker. I am initially described as "quiet" and I really don't like to be the center of attention but figured I had to "sell" myself. Interviewed and went with the first broker that went beyond phone-tag. Instinctively I really felt it was a good fit.

I have been informed that only aggressive sales people succeed in r.e. and called a cockroach by some near and dears after telling them I was in this business. Loved ones support (or not) is for a different post but so far . . . my clients are usually more like myself than not. They are not natural born salespeople either and probably trust them as little as I do. Real relationships and trust are what matter.

Occasionally I still feel pressured to participate in high-powered networking, but, that is not my style or comfort zone. Is there such a thing as low-powered networking? .. .. well, that is what I do. Do I need to be the chairman of this or that committee and participate in all events going on? I am involved on a small-scale. I find confidence and power in being knowledgable and informed on issues for my clients, and pursuing those areas/niches of real estate that I am most interested in. That attracts buyers and sellers seeking the set of particular skills that I have. I like applying all the skills gained from prior careers/jobs into my real estate business.

And interestingly, after getting bronchitis yearly for a month at a time, for decades, since getting my license I have not had bronchitis once.

Sharing . . . Caring . . . Happy Earth Day!

I won a flat of begonias during a raffle at my homeowners association meeting this week, and although I don't have a lot of space for adding more flowers to my garden, I still accepted the award. Now, after thinking twice because these 18 individual plants might perish if I don't get them planted quickly, I have thought of another solution. I can spread some earth day cheer and also promote myself, if only on a small scale. Eighteen plants with my business card tucked alongside each will be an Earth Day doorstep treat for a few households. I love gardening anyway and would rather promote myself with a plant rather than a pen, or a calendar, or a magnet . . . happy earth day, happy earth week!
