League City, Texas: Mandatory WATER RATIONING

MANDATORY WATER RATIONING . . .
Under threat of Penalty for Violation

Strong words for citizens who now need to be aware that The City of League City, Texas has enacted a stage 2 response to the water shortage.

June is typically a wet month, but this year the rainfall so far has been little more than not much. What happened to the 50-52" a year that we are accustomed to?
Water? Since when do we need to water our lawns and sprinkle the flowers? Latest news is that even though the brown tips of your St. Augustine are increasing daily, now you cannot water, except during specified hours according to your address.

New Water Conservation Rules - starting Thursday, July 2, 2009
The City is aiming for a ten percent reduction in daily water demand.

1. Irrigation with hose-end sprinklers or automatic irrigation systems is limited to Tues and Thur for water customers with even-numbered addresses, and limited to Mon and Wed for those with odd-numbered addresses. Hours of irrigation are limited to midnight-5:00 a.m., and 8:00 p.m.-midnight on your designated days.
However, irrigation of landscaped areas is permitted at anytime if it is by means of a hand-held hose, a faucet filled bucket or watering can of five gallons or less, or a drip irrigation system.

2. Washing any motor vehicle, motorbike, boat, trailer, airplane, or other vehicle with water is subject to the same rules: designated days and designated hours only. Use a hand-held bucket or a hand-held hose equipped with a positive shutoff nozzle for quick rinses.
Vehicle washing any time is allowed on the immediate premises of a commercial car wash or commercial service station. Washing may be exempted from these regulations if the health, safety and welfare of the public is contingent upon frequent vehicle cleansing, such as garbage trucks and vehicles used to transport food and perishables.
3. You may fill, refill or add to any indoor or outdoor swimming pools, wading pools and Jacuzzi-type pools only on designated watering days between midnight and 5:00 a.m. and between 8:00 p.m. and midnight. (same rules folks)

4. Ornamental fountains or ponds for aesthetic and scenic purposes are prohibited, except when necessary to support aquatic life or if they are are equipped with a recirculation system.

5. Use of water hydrants is limited to fire fighting, related activities, or other activities necessary to maintain public health, safety and welfare. The use of water from designated fire hydrants may be allowed for construction purposes only under special permit from the city.

6. Irrigation of golf course greens, tee boxes, and fairways is subject to the same rules: designated watering days between midnight-5:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.-midnight. If the golf course uses water that is not provided by the city, they are not be subject to these regulations.

7. Water may not be served at restaurants to patrons unless requested by the patron.

8. Non-essential water use is prohibited. You may NOT use water to:
Wash down sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, tennis courts or other hard-surfaced areas
Wash down buildings or structures for other than immediate fire protection
Use water for dust control
Flush gutters or permit water to run or accumulate in any gutter or street
Fail to repair a controllable leak within a reasonable period of five days after having been given notice directing the repair of such leak

League City, Texas: VICTORY LAKES. Be Safe, Know Your Neighbor

Residents of the Victory Lakes subdivision in The City of League City, Texas are working with the League City Police Department to maintain neighborhood safety. At an HOA meeting earlier this year Police Chief Michael Jez addressed some specific concerns raised during the meeting. He urged citizens to prioritize their concerns, noting that there may be differences in what residents and the police department consider most important.

Citizen safety and security are at the top of the list. At certain streets/intersections speeding drivers are being ticketed more frequently in an effort to reduce speeding overall in the subdivision. At a Victory Lakes Homeowners Meeting in June several members of the Police Department spoke about ways homeowners can increase their own safety and security and also that of their property. They provided Summary Reports of calls for service and other neighborhood statistics of interest.

Residents and the Police Department are committed to continuing communication so the concerns of residents are addressed. These meetings inform and educate residents, and help Victory Lakes continue to be the great place to live that it is. Residents are urged to "know their neighbors", be mindful of any unusual activity, and call police if something doesn't seem right.
