Internet Safety for Children - Workshop for parents in Nashville TN - Press Release

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (November 25, 2008) - 143-lmirl. What does it mean? To many parents it's just gibberish, but to most 13 year olds it obviously means, "I love you, let's meet in real life."

To help parents monitor who and what their children are exposed to on the Internet, the Metro Nashville Public Schools Community Career Center will be hosting a free Internet safety workshop designed specifically for parents. How to use blocking/spy software, navigating MySpace and other social sites, instant message literacy and signs that a child may be involved in an improper online relationship are among the topics that will be discussed.

The workshop will be held Thursday, Dec. 4 from 5:30-7 p.m. in the Fellowship Room of Brook Hollow Baptist Church, 678 Brook Hollow Road (just off Davidson Road in West Meade), Nashville TN. For more information call the MNPS Community Career Center at 298-6752 or Brook Hollow Baptist Church at 352-1295.

Metro Nashville Public Schools provide a range of educational opportunities to more than 75,000 students in Nashville and Davidson County. The governing body for MNPS is the Metropolitan Nashville and Davidson County Board of Public Education, a nine-member group elected by residents of Metropolitan Nashville. Tennessee Fall, and its colors, comes but once a year!

Let me share some of my Fall 2008 photos. I don't set up professional camera shots; I am an extreme amateur. I just snap as I see colors, and when it is safe to do so (without fear of being rear ended!).

A simple photography editing trick to level your houses in photos

Don't you feel a little silly, but yet proud of yourself, when you discover a simple trick that you wonder why you didn't know all along? 524 Oakley Dr, Nashville TN. Contact Sarah Rummage, American Realty Resources, 615-516-5233

I have a hard time taking photos and making the houses level in the photos. A lot of them look like the Leaning Tower of Pisa. I have actually driven back to the property to try to get a level photo.

I use a simple photo editor called Irfanview. Using it, if you go to "Image," then click on "Custom/Fine Rotation," then enter 2 or 3 degrees in the box if you want to rotate slightly clockwise. Or if you want to rotate slightly counter clockwise, enter -2 or -3 in the box.

If you use another photo editor, I feel sure there is a
‘Custom/Fine Rotation' setting. It is wonderful! Live and learn!

Check out the sample to the right. This is a photo of a home which was custom rotated. Cool!

Halloween tips - Good reminders!

I received the following tips this morning from our local police precinct. These are always good reminders for all of us, especially children who are getting a little old to go with parents.

We will be going to a few houses with our 3 year old grandson. We are looking forward to it! Everybody have fun!

Never Trick or Treat alone. Children should always Trick or Treat with an adult.

  • Plan your route and let someone know.
  • Never go inside a house to accept treats. Accept treats only in the doorway.
  • Wait until you get home and your parents check your candy before you eat it.
  • Visit houses where the lights are on.
  • Walk. Do not run. Walk on sidewalks and driveways. Cross the street at the corner or in a crosswalk.
  • Wear costumes with reflective markings, bright colors and flame resistant material. Stay away from lit jack-o-lanterns
  • Take a cell phone, a flashlight and a watch.
