Golfers Looking For a Challenge?

Golfers are you looking to golf at the course rated the best new course in 2007?

If so then you will be heading just outside of Tacoma Washington to University Place to walk the links at Chambers Bay Golf Course. This Scottish inspired course was designed by Robert Trent Jones II and was created in the traditional links style.

The Puget Sound is your majestic backdrop as you walk the 18 holes. There are no carts on this course. Harking back to simpler times you will enjoy your day with your caddy. From the teal tees the course is over 7,500 yards with a slope of 135. This is one challenging and beautiful course.

The 930 acre site has been a paper mill, a quarry, and is now part of the Chambers Creek Properties owned by Pierce County. There are two miles of saltwater shoreline and over two and a half miles of creek and canyons. With outstanding water and mountain views from just about every vantage point. There are miles of public trails available to wonder and discover on. More is planned for the site in the upcoming years. You can read about the site here on the Pierce County website.

Greens fees range from $55.00 to $70.00 off peak season and from $97.00 to $171.00 for peak days and times. The cost to have a caddy ranges from $35.00 to $75.00. Prices current as of the time of this article. Reservations can be made online here.

After you experience the course you can enjoy a meal at the Chambers Bay Grill. Northwest inspired cuisine with a Scottish flair. The grill is open from 7am till 8pm Monday-Sunday. If you want to hold a company event the grill can hold up to 70 for an event. There is a seasonal event pavilion that can accommodate up to 200 people.

The Chambers Bay Golf Course and surrounding area is a wonderful place to visit and see some of the beautiful scenery in the Tacoma area. I hope you will visit Tacoma soon.

Stadium High School Sets a World Record

In 2006 Stadium High School in Tacoma held their 100 year anniversary reunion. Almost 3,300 people attended the reunion setting a world record for the number of people to attend a school reunion. This record will be included in the upcoming 2009 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records.

Here is a link to a blog that celebrates the 100 year history of Stadium High School.

Here is another link. This is the Celebrate Stadium website.

The castle as it is often called was originally intended to be a hotel for the Northern Pacific Railroad. Due to a downturn in the economy the shell of the building was abandoned. There was a fire of questionable origin and the Northern Pacific decided that enough was enough. The Tacoma school board was consulted and Frederic Heath was commissioned to turn the hotel into Tacoma's newest high school. Completed at a cost of almost $500,000.00 Stadium doors opened to students in 1906. At that time the school was called Tacoma High School. The name was changed in 1913 to Stadium in honor of the high schools new bowl.

The bowl has been the site for many sporting events in Tacoma throughout the past 98 years. Babe Ruth played in an exhibition game here. Louis Armstrong performed in the bowl. Presidents Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson and Warren Harding spoke in the Bowl. There was even a reenactment of the burning of Rome! On the Fourth of July thousands would gather in the bowl to watch the fireworks display over Commencement Bay. Every Thanksgiving Stadium would play cross-town rivals Lincoln High School in the bowl.

Many of you have seen Stadium High in the movie 10 Things I Hate About You. The building provides a wonderful backdrop for the movie.

Here's a tip of the hat to Stadium as it will now be remembered in the Guinness Book of Records.

Pierce County Condo Prices Rise Almost 3% in 2007

Recently released numbers by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service show that Pierce County Condo prices and sales volume rose in 2007 vs. 2006 sales and prices. Sales volume for Pierce County increased 4.7% in '07. The median price increased 2.9% in '07

The Puyallup area condo prices lead the pack at a 33% sales increase and a price increase of 8.5%! 286 Units sold.

The Parkland area had sales growth of 115% to 86 units sold in '07

The North Tacoma condo market did drop over 32% to 166 units sold in '07 Average price did rise by 15% for the units that did sell.

Given the media reports of excess condo development in the Greater Tacoma/Pierce County area the numbers show that the market for condos was strong in 2007. I am curious what the 2008 sales will be. There are some great projects coming online in early '08 and I am excited to see how they are received by the public.

With interest rates lower than we have seen in quite some time and with the availability for buyers to purchase more with their dollar, now is a great time for buyers to purchase the home or condo that they have been dreaming of.
