The New Pitt River Bridge to partially open later this week!

The new Pitt River Bridge is ready to partially open to 3 lanes of traffic later this week. Rob Ahola, project director of the Pitt River Bridge, said only three lanes will be running on the new span until December.

"What we're going to end up with is one lane heading east and two lanes heading west on the bridge," he said. Aholalater explained that there's no need to worry as the existing Pitt bridge will remain open to traffic to create at least six open lanes until the replacement is complete.

The light at the end of the tunnel is clearly visble now and the horror that has been the commute from Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows will soon be over. The new bridge won't be open in full in October because the Mary Hill Interchange has to be finished, upon completion of the new Pitt River Bridge project the old spans will be demolished later in 2010.

Submit your Blog/Website to the Search Engines

All Realtors have a web site (don't they?) and those on the frontier of technological change have a Blog. Having a web site or blog with all your wonderful keywords is admirable but does you little good if the search engines dont have their spiders crawl you (creepy huh?).

The spiders of the Internet are automatic programs (bots) that try to find all the relevent material there is on the World Wide Web in order for Google, Bing, Yahoo etc. to rank you and index what you have so that consumer you are trying to attract can find you.

Each search engine has it's own unique and secret search ranking algorithm that people in the industry extrapolate and speculate to optimize their web pages with, but this is for another article...

STEP ONE of ONE, Submit your web pages to Search Engines, its quick and easy!

GOOGLE is pretty easy, just type in your web site address (url) with the proper format such as this: http://www.scottleaf.com/ Google has a comments field, I always type in the major key keyword I am using, in this case I would put 'Maple Ridge Real Estate' in that field.

BING is the new kid on the block and because it has the power of MSN behind, will certainly be one of the dominant search providers if only because it will be included as a default search provider in Microsoft software. Submitting to Bing is also very straight forward.

There are other minor search providers such as ASK, they do not allow you to submit a web site, instead they require that you make a rather technical step of adding a site map to your html code. In fact Google gives bonus juice if you do the same for them. This article isn't about going that far, baby steps, walk before you run. Many of you will want to read the technical details provided on these suggested links and go the extra mile to get that SEO Juice that helps searchers find you, all the power to you.

Submitting your web site to a Search Engine includes you in a queue of requests, it can still take 1 to 2 weeks for the spider to crawl your site or much less, it is trully a mystery why this is so and each company is different from the others. Therefore submit today and get the ball rolling!

Facebook shuts down controversial Beacon marketing tool

Facebook says it will shut down its marketing feature called Beacon, a highly controversial marketing application that broadcasts users' activities, including purchases, on other websites to their Facebook friends. The feature has been in place on Facebook since late 2007 and was instantly set upon by annoyed Facebook users who said it invaded their privacy.beacon marketing tool

Beacon tracks Facebook user's purchases and other activities on partners' websites and adds those activities to the user's feed. In December 2007, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg publicly apologized for the implementation of Beacon and allowed users to permanently turn off the tool.

Facebook said late Friday that Beacon would end completely as part of a class-action lawsuit settlement. The company, based in Palo Alto, Calif., also said it would pay $9.5 million US to create a foundation to promote online privacy, safety and security. It is presumed that the proposed settlement will be approved by a judge.

When it was launched during the Christmas season in 2007 some users were shocked to see gift purchases made through Facebook partners being displayed on their live feed. One partner in Beacon was Blockbuster, meaning a user's movie rentals could be broadcast on Facebook. A class-action lawsuit alleged that the feature violated the U.S. Video Privacy Protection Act, which prohibits sharing video renting or buying habits without consent.

Some of the features of Beacon have been implemented in a separate feature, called Facebook Connect, which allows websites and desktop and iPhone apps to use Facebook login information. Users do have the ability to shut it off but a vast majority do not even know that it exists.
