The 2008 Atlanta Arts Festival is this weekend in PIEDMONT PARK - how did they do that?? The festival will feature over 200 artists from around the country. I have always enjoyed a Fall Arts Festival in Piedmont Park. It looks like this one may be replacing the famous arts festival of the 1990's.

Scott Eaves

The Atlanta Public Schools System is building a new elementary school on Ponce de Leon Avenue which will cause the redistricting of Morningside Elementary and Mary Lin Elementary Schools. The City of Atlanta School Board just released it's plan and will hold a public forum on Thursday, September 18, 2008, at 6:00 p.m. at Grady High School.

I encourage all of those affected to attend.

The Druid Hills Civic Association is sponsoring it's annual Home & Garden Tour celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the sale of the Druid Hills project to the Druid Hills Corporation. It was May of 1908 when the Atlanta Journal & Constitution reported the Joel Hurt property sale as, "the largest sale ever recorded here." The price for the 1492 acres of land was a half million dollars. The buyer was The Druid Hills Company. The president of the company was Coca Cola millionaire, Asa G. Candler. He along with realtors Forrest & George Adair, and Georgia Railway and Power executive, Preston Arkwright are credited for developing the land, using original plans drawn up for Hurt in 1893 by the renowned father of architectural landscape, Frederick Law Olmsted.

This year's tour features six homes of historical significance. There will also be an Artist's Market at the historic Stonehenge Mansion, now St. John's Lutheran Church, at 1410 Ponce de Leon Avenue. Approximately 40 artists, in mediums such as paintings in oils, watercolors, and acrylics; as well as jewelry, pottery, and photography along with new and vintage textile art will be featured.

The Lullwater Garden Club will be holding their spring plant sale with plenty of drought tolerant perennials, annuals and succulents to keep a garden beautiful. The sale will be in full blossom at 1010 Oxford Road, Atlanta 30306.

Is Black the New White?

04-14-08
Scott Eaves

Last week I was working with two different buyers looking for move in ready homes. In two separate parts of metro Atlanta, I came across renovated kitchens with black cabinets. I have seen black cabinets going into new homes, but this was the first time that I had seen old cabinets painted black. I know investors used to paint the "granny" cabinets white to update the kitchen, but now it looks like the new trend is black. It makes perfect sense though....black cabinets make the kitchen POP and gives the home a WOW factor, and we know kitchens sell homes! Plus, you can take any cabinet in any condition and make it better by painting it black....you couldn't always do that when painting cabinets white.

Here are the kitchens:
