Wow! What a race! They don't call it the fastest track for nothing, right? My race really ended at Lap 7, when Matt Kenseth bumped Jeff Gordon (just a race bump, not a "wanna make you wreck" bump) and sent Jeff slamming into the wall for the first big wreck of the day. The wreck took out last week's winner, Mark Martin, for the rest of the race. Some of the others that got caught up in the wreck were Kevin Harvick, Kasey Kahne and AJ Allmendinger, who all eventually made it back on to the track, albeit several laps down. With 'Dega being 'Dega and with me being a big NASCAR fan as well as Jeff Gordon fan, I couldn't just turn the TV off and leave. We had Dale Earnhardt Jr fans, Tony Stewart fans and Ryan Newman fans in the house yesterday. At vaying times throughout the race, Jr and Newman both seemed poised to possibly win. So, there was excitement to be had. When the final caution came out just a few laps from the end, we had Jr pushing Newman to the front to break away from the pack. Then, out of nowhere, Carl Edwards gets a nice assist from Brad Keselowski (where the hell did THEY come from) and they head to the front like nobody's business. Just feet from the end, Keselowski makes his move to win the race, diving below Edwards as an opening appears. Unfortunately, Edwards misjudges the space and catches some serious air as he is spun out into the fencing that, fortunately saved alot of spectatctors from being killed. Thank God, the safer barrier held and Edwards was able to climb out and, in classic Ricky Bobby fashion, crossed the finish line on foot. In one swift move, Edwards went from a 1st place finish to a 24th place finish.

While Pinkberry is more of an LA deal, we in the Inland Empire have our Berry Sweet. It is a family-owned business that offers tart and tangy frozen yogurt with tons of toppings to choose from. You have your choice of a dozen different flavors on any given day and over 20 different toppings, which range from fresh fruit to mini peanut butter cups. Located in the University Village, just up the street from the University of California at Riverside, Berry Sweet is a self-serve frozen yogurt paradise. Since it just so happens to be conveniently located just up the street from my son's school, we decided early on in the school year that we would beat the Monday blues by stopping in at Berry Sweet on the way home as a nice pick-me-up. It makes Mondays much more bearable in Riverside. All flavors are non-fat and they always offer at least one sugar-free flavor. So, it makes a healthier alternative to ice cream. My son likes to pile a ton of sugar-filled sweets onto his frozen yogurt while I always go for the fat-free, sugar-free strawberry/banana topped with fresh sliced kiwi and strawberries. They slice up their fruit fresh every day (definitely NOT from a can with nasty syrup or anything). This little slice of heaven will only cost you $0.37/ounce. And, I don't have to feel guilty about indulging every once in a while. By the way, make sure you drop a little something into the Karms (tip) jar. These guys deserve it.

Congratulations go out to pole sitter and winner: the little jockey, Mark Martin. He's one of the nicest and most humble men in all of NASCAR. He SO deserved it. He was definitely the dominating car at Saturday night's race. He was the winner at the first NASCAR race I ever attended. So, it was lovely to see him win and get his 400th Top 10 finish of his career. That being said, I have to tell you..that was the most painful experience watching a race that I have ever had the displeasure of watching. As you all know, I am a HUGE Jeff Gordon fan. So, to watch my guy go from a solid 3rd place to almost two laps down because someone missed a lug nut burst my bubble real quick. His pit crew continually got him out of the pits at least two positions down from when he entered, too. I don't think Jeff had the car to win on Satuday (that was ALL Mark Martin), but I think he could have had another great top 5 finish. Jeff finished 25th but still retains an healthy 85 point lead in overall points. Good ol' Smoke tried as hard as he could to get his first win this season, too, but just came up short. Tony Stewart has been doing amazing as an owner/driver this year. So much better than others we have seen try this lately (*cough* Michael Waltrip *cough*). And speaking of Michael Waltrip, I said an out loud "Oh no you di'n't" when Robbie Gordon commented about how he couldn't wait until next year to see who was taking over the #55 spot. You can always count on a hot-headed Robbie Gordon to make your jaw drop. I guess that's why we love him so much!
Another high/low light of the evening was when Dale Earnhardt Jr's car's handling completely left him. Now, he had been sideways several laps before he actually his the wall. And, the camera angle they showed didn't make it clear whether the handling got away from him again before he hit the wall or if Casey Mears bumped him. But, being an Earnhardt, I guess it was only natural for him to give Mears a "love tap" (if you will) on the "not-so-cool down lap". And, being a red-neck sport that we all love so much, Mears retaliated with a few "love taps" of his own to let Junior know that it wasn't OK with him. I can't wait to see what Junior has to say about that at all. These are what makes NASCAR good old fashioned redneck fun. I'll see you Sunday, April 26th at 1pm ET on FOX to watch NASCAR race on the fastest track in the series: Talladega. Yay!
