How's that for having the right attitude?

For the past few months, Mickey has been complaining about blurred vision. She has been to her Optometrist and he did detect a bit of macular degeneration in one eye, but her vision seems to have worsened. Her vision is blurry in both eyes, not just the one with the macular degeneration. This week he referred her to a retina specialist, her first appointment was on Monday.

His examination concurred that there is some macular degeneration, but after injecting dye into her system and taking more pictures, he found that she also has fluid leaking into both eyes. A common problem in older folks from what he told them. The treatment didn't make me very happy............an injection into the retina, but I guess Mickey handled it like a champ and is scheduled for another treatment in two weeks.

When I called and asked her how everything went, she said to me:

"I don't expect to have 20/20 vision again, but if he can fix me so I can at least read the newspaper every day, my Enquirer Magazine, watch my movies and TV shows and kick your A$$ at cards, I'll be happy!"

How's that for having the right attitude?

Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail..........................

"Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail
shall keep the postmen from their appointed rounds."

Although I am not a postman, when I make a commitment, I'm true to my word.

As many of you know, I've been helping a friend with a few of his rental properties in my neighborhood. He has a modest four suite apartment building which is literally four blocks from where I presently live. When I first started helping him out, three of the suites were vacant. Since January 1st, I rented both of the two bedroom suites and one of them is already occupied. The second couple is moving into their suite this weekend. That left me a one bedroom suite that is still not rented.

Last Friday, during a horrible snow storm, I got a call from a woman inquiring about the one bedroom apartment. After a lengthy conversation, we made an appointment later that day for her to tour it. As the day went on, the show kept piling up, but I had made a commitment, so off I went to the appointment.

She loved the apartment, but still had two others to look at before she made a decision. I gave her an application, told her about the application fee, then back out into the snow to head for home.

Late yesterday afternoon she called me. She had looked at the other two apartments and they were both nasty and over priced. She loved that fact that the suite I showed her had hardwood floors that are in great condition, it was freshly painted, plenty of closet space and had a gas range in the kitchen, it was perfect for her, she decided to drop off the application to me along with the fee and proceed with the rental.

"One last question before I drop off the application and the check. Is the rent negotiable?"

My answer:

"Of course it is, but I thought $550 was quite reasonable. How high are you willing to go?"

Give me a break! I only negotiate DOWN when it's my idea, and UP when it's theirs!

So, I still have a one bedroom apartment available in Fairport Harbor.

Interested?

The rent is either $550.00 or as high as you are willing to go!

It's time for the answer to "Two Lies And A Truth". Let me remind you of what was posted yesterday by our Featured Guest Marian Goetzinger.

  • I can diet and lose weight without ever feeling hungry.
  • I eat a grapefruit every day and that keeps me thin.
  • Losing weight is hard but simple: Eat less and move more.
Many of you guessed correctly...........#3 is the Truth, so lets all take Marian's advice and get to it.

Now for our "Star Of The Week". This is one young lady I totally respect. She took on the challenge and became a non-smoker and put on some weight because of substituting candy and food for a cigarette, but never got discouraged. Although it was difficult, she stuck with it. She is still a non-smoker and this week managed to drop 9.8 pounds. Makes me proud to say you can "Take It Off In The Rain" with dedication, discipline and determination. It also makes me proud to announce this wonderful, thoughtful caring your lady as our "Star Of The Week".

Hereeeeeeeeeeeee's Amy!

Congratulations and best wishes for continued success!

Funny how things stick with you and become part of your repertoire.

Funny how things stick with you and become part of your repertoire.

Years ago I was out running errands and my cell phone rang, it was my friend Ellen. She asked what I was doing. I told her I was at the pharmacy picking up my prescription.

She immediately responded "You're in the liquor store aren't you?"

"Why would you say a thing like that Ellen?"

"You don't take any prescription drugs. Your medication of choice is Stolichnaya or Dewars!"

Since then, every time I visit the liquor store, I say I'm picking up my prescription.

Being part of a large family, there is always some sort of gathering.

When my nieces and nephews were quite young and we would be at a function at one of their homes, they would always go around and ask if anyone would like a beverage.

"But if you'd like an 'adult beverage' my Dad will have to get that for you"

Hence, my use of the word "prescription" for my "adult beverages".
