Eagle Harbor is a Master Planned Community with Five Day Docks throughout. The Dock on Doctor's Lake is beside the Waterfront Park to the east and a Preserve to the west which houses a Bald Eagle's nest. Boaters are welcome to dock their boats for the day while they visit Eagle Harbor residents. Residents shrimp and crab here and bring their favorite beverage to enjoy spectacular sunsets.
Pace Island is a guard-gated naturally beautiful community on Fleming Island Florida. It is one of eight communities in Florida to win the coveted "Florida Quality Development" award. It was the first to win this award, and the only community in Northeast Florida to ever win this award.
The land which Pace Island sits on was purchased by John and Gussie Pace in 1949, when it was known as Geiger Point. For years it was their family home place and they dug lakes, canals, built roads and bridges, and cultivated many plants and trees. Developers gave them a price they couldn't refuse in 1984, and the development of Pace Island as a community was begun. You can read about the history of Pace Island here. For Orange Park residents, Pace Island was considered 'way out,' even though it was just over the Doctor's Lake Bridge. Now it's considered 'close in' on Fleming Island with the newer communities down the road.
The Moccasin Slough Wildlife Refuge was part of the original purchase of John Pace. Today, the Slough adjoins Pace Island affording a continuous natural setting for residents and guests. There are still many forms of wildlife to be observed and enjoyed.
There are 685 homes in Pace Island, developed as twenty-one units in four distinct neighborhoods. The first neighborhood, Pace Cove, is near the entrance on the right, and has smaller homes with an average 70'x120' lot. To the left is the Pace Highlands, where lots average 85'-100'x120'. Further down on the left is the Pace Vinings, with similar lot sizes as the Highlands.
Driving down a winding road through the conservation areas, you will come to the Pace Gardens. Turn right or left on Salt Myrtle, and you will wind around a large circle with homes on a lagoon and homes on navigable Doctor's Lake. Lot sizes start at 100' and range from 150' to over 225' deep. Turn right on Pace Island Trace, and you will see the Park with sports fields, swimming pool, pavilion, and nature walk to the community dock.
Home prices range from the high $100,000s to over $1,500,000. Home sizes range from around 1700 sq. ft. to around 6,000 sq. ft.
Amenities for Pace Island include:
2 Swimming Pool Areas - Front Pool is an Olympic-sized competition pool and has a Clubhouse, kiddie pool, tennis courts and playground.
Back Pool in the Pace Gardens area where there are soccer and baseball field, playground, and a nature walk to the Pavilion and Day Dock on Doctor's Lake.
The Black Creek Trail Bicycle Path runs along the outside of the community and bikers can hop on and ride town to the Trail. There are also lighted basketball courts.
Pace Island has lots to do for children and adults: The Pirhanas Swim Team, Tennis Team, Bunco, Bridge, Aerobics, Holiday parties and other activities.
Pace Island borders the Moccasin Slough wildlife refuge and there are trails running through it that may be accessed within the community.
Residents enjoy a very active social life and the Hibiscus newsletter keeps Pace Islanders informed of local events and news. Copies are available in the newsstand container just outside the guard gate on your way out of the community.
