I ran in my very first marathon yesterday! Not exactly the whole marathon...but I did run in it.
The Baystate Marathon was held yesterday in Lowell, Massachusetts...with over 1500 runners.
My daughter, Ashley, was one of the runners. It was her first full marathon and she hasn't been running all that long.

Saying we were very proud of her doesn't begin to express our feelings as we stood on the side of the road at mile 22 and screamed our heads off as she passed by.
After we saw her, it was a nerve wracking ride to the finish line, to see her finish. Traffic was so bad that Ashley caught up to us and ran right past us. I was so afraid she would beat us to the finish line.
Luckily, we got to the finish area just a minute or two before her. As we were frantically trying to figure out how to get to the actual finish line, she came around the corner...and her dad was able to run along side her with the video camera...I ran behind her pushing Zack in his stroller.
I ran for probably 2 minutes...the closest I will ever get to actually running in a marathon. Two minutes.......two minutes longer than I EVER want to run again!
Ashley ran for just over 4 1/2 hours!

All you marathon runners out there who run 26 miles have my respect...I bow to you in amazement. I don't understand it and I find it very hard to believe that people do it willingly.
Ashley, I love you and I couldn't be any prouder!

There are two FREE Halloween events in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, that you really shouldn't miss.
The first is the Portsmouth Halloween Parade, held October 31 at 7 pm - rain or shine. Always a lot of fun!

The second is a house, 292 Middle Road in Portsmouth. I look forward each year to seeing what theme they have come up with for their ghoulish, amazing, Halloween display.
To say they "decorate for Halloween" would be a massive understatement.
Each year their barn and surrounding area is spooked out to the max, each year a different theme, and each year I am left more amazed at the lengths one family will go to celebrate the holiday.
It's a visual display, no monsters lurking about...no physical interaction...stop by and check it out and stay as long as you wish.
This year's theme is the circus... CIRQUE DU MORT

This haunted Circus barn in Portsmouth, NH is open every night in October 5pm - 9pm.
It's FREE OF CHARGE - and it's better than most you would pay to enter.
Last week was our first vacation in almost two years. Weather was not great...but we made the best of it. We took the new toy hauler on it's maiden voyage.
Rain...that is ActiveRain...went with us.
We spent a couple nights in the Conway area of New Hampshire and then a couple nights in the Sebago Lake area of Maine. Both places had internet so I was able to play in the Rain...
The weather was pretty cold, but it did get warm enough on Friday to take the bike out to ride the Kancamagus Highway from Conway to Lincoln.

I couldn't ride through the White Mountain area without stopping in to say "hi" to fellow rain member,
Steve Loynd at Alpine Lakes Real Estate.
Steve gave us a great recommendation for lunch, The Gypsy Cafe...it was fabulous! If you are ever in Lincoln, stop in - you won't regret it.

Steve told us where we could find the "heart tree" that he recently shared on his blog, and I was able to get my own photo...

The maiden voyage went well...no major problems ( I did forget matches....who goes camping without matches? ) It was awesome getting away and being able to take the bike with us. I think we are going to enjoy the toy hauler and look forward to our next adventure.
While on our trip I not only checked in to ActiveRain daily,
I visited a fellow ActiveRain member,
and I got business answers I needed via email from another fellow member, Marianne Cherico.
The weather was only rainy one day...but we were in the RAIN the whole trip.
