My husband is in the mortgage business and last night he went to a Mortgage Trade Show at The Harbourside in Ft Myers. As soon as he easily got a parking spot right in front of the place, he knew something was up (or down I should say).
There was a pitiful 4 rows of vendors. Also conspicuously missing were the foreclosure/bankruptcy bailout lenders. None, nada ...all gone! Poof!
In the old days there could be acres of companies hawking their programs.
I used to work in the mortgage industry myself years ago and I did a stint with a hard money lender. We would go to all the trade shows and be the hottest table there. Brokers couldn't sign up fast enough. No income, no asset, no credit!!! Needless to say that company has poofed also.
So, is this good or bad? Well, if you are in the business, that means less competition. More for us. But there is also less to go around.
So, is it six of one and half a dozen of the other?
I just came back from a walk/jog, well ... mostly walk...and what stood out tonight were the dogs. I live in a gated community, so I tend to take the same paths and because of that, I see the same fur babies time after time. Little white dogs rule in SW Florida! I think that it may actually be a requirement for entry to Bonita Springs. I LOVE dogs and I love that their presence brings people together.I meet so many folks because of that bond. I pride myself on the fact that I know almost every dog by name. The owners are next! ;-) Next to our spouses, kids and grandkids, our dogs are the most important thing in our lives. We love our dogs!
What is also nice is that many of these cuties are rescued from area shelters. They tend to be the most lovable, loyal, grateful pets. If I had "Oprah money",I would save them all.My goal would be to oversee the biggest and baddest rescue ranch around. The inspiration comes from Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in southern Utah. I first saw a show about it on National Geographic. It's an amazing place and the work they do is heartwarming.
This is my baby, Gracie. She was saved from a puppy mill in Miami where she was a breeder, having litter after litter. She's very happy now, so are we. Gracie likes to take my things (especially flip flops) and "move them". She doesn't chew or destroy, she just picks them up moves them to a new location. I'm thinking that this a learned behavior from caring for puppies.
