Ah competition................. gotta love it. I was just thinking about how a little competition makes us all better at our jobs. Without it we would be very lazy and the consumer would not be getting the top quality professionals they expect. I am amazed that in the last 2 weeks I have been told several times by potential sellers about how they have just had it with Realtors. Honestly, I can understand why sometimes myself. As we all know very well the market is not so stable at the moment. What does it take to make a living at the moment? Hard work ethics, honesty, integrity among many other things. I am not afraid of a little competition from other agents at the moment. Have you ever gone on a listing appointment knowing that others were interviewing the same day for the listing? I remember one about 6 months ago. In most of my listing appointments I am not competing with other Realtors for it when I show up. This one was a little different though. The house was an ok house. The issue with this home was..... he wanted to count some rooms in the basement as bedrooms that actually were not bedrooms. The law states that a bedroom has to have 2 exits. One being a door and the other can be a window but it has to be a certain size. I did explain this to the seller. He was pretty insistent that those were bedrooms. Even when I gave him this scenario. If we sold it to a family as those rooms being bedrooms. The house had a fire and some kids were trapped in there because the windows were not big enough to get out of. Could he still justify calling them bedrooms? Needless to say I passed on the listing and another agent came in behind me and listed it using the amount of bedrooms he wanted. In this case there was no competition. I did not want the listing. I would not list this house. Other times I really think a little competition keeps you on your toes. Makes you do your very best to be prepared and make a great impression on buyers and sellers. So bring on the healthy competition and keep me on my toes. I want to be the best I can be!
