Maps for all hiking trails can be obtained from the NY/NJ Trail Conference (201-512-9348) at 156 Ramapo Valley Rd, Mahwah, NJ 07430. NY/NJ Trail Conference maps can also be bought at the Information Center on the Palisades Interstate Parkway in Bear Mountain (845-786-5003) betqween exits 16 and 17. And at the Museum of the Hudson Highlands in Cornwall. CAUTION. Some parks are closed to hikers during hunting season in November and December. Check with either the park or the Department of Environmental Conservstion (845-986-0588) for restrictions. |
| Appalachian Trail Spanning from the New Jersey border to the Hudson River (about 35 miles), the trail was founded here in 1923. A lengthy portion offers scenic views of Greenwood Lake. It also winds its way through the Bear Mountain Wildlife Center, the most popular section of the entire trail. |
