San Antonio #1 in the nation for economic performance!

San Antonio woke up to great news this morning! The Brookings Institution has ranked San Antonio as THE strongest metropolitan area in the country for economic performance in the wake of the recession! The top five cities mentioned in the report are San Antonio, Oklahoma City, Austin, Houston, and Dallas.

The top 100 metropolitan areas were ranked by Brookings based on six key indicators — employment, unemployment rates, wages, gross metropolitan product, housing prices and foreclosure rates. This report covers the first quarter of 2009 and additional reports will be released quarterly.

Howard Wial, director of the Metropolitan Economy Initiative at Brookings and a co-author of the report, says that “Many (metro) areas will need targeted assistance, and since states have no funds available, the federal government will have to step up to fill the void.”

Randolph Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, Lackland Air Force Base and Brooks City-Base are all located in San Antonio. The 2005 Base Realignment and Closure decision is giving a huge economic boost to our city's economy through the consolidation of high-paying military health care jobs and more than $2 billion worth of new construction activity.

In a separate report released by The DiLuzio Group LLC regarding the impact of BRAC, Fort Sam Houston alone will realize an 11,500 increase of personnel. Ft. Sam will also gain 7.9 million square feet of space. Construction at BRAC will create around 46,000 construction jobs during the building programs.

Viva San Antonio!

~Lost Maples State Natural Area~

The Lost Maples State Natural Area will soon be expanded by more than 700 acres, land acquired from a neighboring ranch. The owner of the new property has taken great care to preserve and protect the land in it's natural, unspoiled state. The Can Creek watershed is located on the new property. Trails will be open for hiking through the canyons of the addiition in 2012.

Presently there are 16 miles of trails available for hiking. The most popular time of year to explore Lost Maples is in the fall when the native big-tooth maple trees are showing off their spectacular red and gold leaves. Park staff is available for information and education.

~Tony & Eva's New Home~

Recently I read that Eva Longoria and Tony Parker's home in Champions Ridge was for sale and blogged about it, ~Tony Parker and Eva Longoria's home for sale~. Unfortunately, I didn't have a buyer candidate for this beautiful home and I read today that the home now has a buyer. That was pretty quick! Actually, I had a buyer from California who was interested but they decided to move near family in Florida instead.

Tony and Eva will be enjoying their new 10,000 square feet Mediterranean style home in the secluded, gated community of Anaqua Springs. The green-built home is reported to be valued at $7 million and sits on 2.3 acres. The estate has a guest house, basketball court, tennis court, volleyball court, pool, and a mini water park! Sounds wonderful.

Go Spurs!
