Why is professional real estate photography so important?

Because Every Picture is Worth a Thousand "Clicks."

Today’s home buyers don’t have time or money to waste. In a buyer’s market, buyers have their pick of the litter. And, how do today’s savvy home buyers find their potential dream home with such a busy lifestyle? Why, the Internet, of course. Today’s home buyers are now able to preview a home with a “click” of the mouse before they take the time out of their hectic day to actually visit the property. Many buyers won’t even consider a home if they don’t like the pictures. According to the National Association of REALTORS® (NAR), 84%* of home buyers “shop” for homes online before contacting a real estate agent. In addition, the NAR reports that 98%* of home buyers say photographs are among the most important features when house hunting online. With statistics like these, you as an agent cannot afford to market your listings with bad photography.

You have an obligation to your clients to get their listings sold. Sellers want the red carpet treatment for their homes. This includes showcasing their biggest investment in the best light possible. As professionals, we know which features to accentuate to bring out the best in every home. Offering professional photography on your listing appointments will demonstrate how dedicated you are to marketing your clients’ properties and in turn, they will be more likely to list with you.

With inventories at historic highs, it is essential for today’s agents to make listings attractive to today’s buyers. As the saying goes, “you don’t get a second chance to make a first impression.” Listings with eye-catching photographs will take attention away from those with poor quality photographs.

All too often, captions can be found for photographs on the MLS that say “this picture doesn’t do justice to this room.” In our opinion, the picture should not only do justice, but should enhance the room to its maximum potential. Professional digital photography can help captivate the interest of buyers and could just be the difference between a potential buyer and a passer-by!

Don’t let poor grammar and punctuation lead to a deal breaker

Having worked for years in corporate America, too many times I have seen poor pieces of writing come in and out of the office. I’ve been inundated with poorly worded emails that never cease to amaze me. How you speak and write to clients, other colleagues, etc. is a reflection of yourself and your company. This is also true for your employees. You know that saying that was popular to fend off bullies when you were a kid, “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words can never hurt me?” Well, forget about it! Words can hurt you and your company’s image! Whether it’s a formal piece or one that is meant to be more conversational, it still needs to be professional.

Your credentials or the ability to do a job is often determined by your communication skills. The words you choose to use in writing are like the clothes you choose to put on every day. Your words are part of your image. You wouldn’t show up to meet with clients in sweatpants and a t-shirt. Don’t give them the wrong first impression with a poorly written email, letter, proposal or marketing piece. Just as you would look in the mirror before you leave the house, it is important that you or someone else looks over your material before you send it.

Some common mistakes I’ve found include overuse of capitalization, misuse of the apostrophe, misspelling of homonyms, incorrect word usage, sentence fragments, run-on sentences, misspelling of a person’s or company’s name, misspelling of common words, spacing issues, tense issues, punctuation issues and emails that are too informal.

Oftentimes, many of these mistakes are actually oversights due to the writer’s failure to proofread his or her material.

If your writing falls victim to one of these faux pas, contact Shore Media Solutions for professional proofreading, editing and writing services.
