Shenandoah County Waves

You might be wondering what waves there could be in Shenandoah County. It's true there's probably never more than a ripple in the area when it comes to water. Maybe there are riffles or standing waves on the Shenandoah River or some of the creeks but I'm not talking about water.

There are plenty of waves though. In Shenandoah County people still make an effort to give and return friendly waves. It makes driving a real pleasure. Imagine that!

We have Virginia Scenic Byways. Beautiful roads with mountain and valley views bring lots of tourists. On almost any hill a new picture is presented. Many cyclists come to the area and you probably have an image of them waving to each other as they pass. A friendly wave meaning, "I see you and respect your space." Or maybe, "Hey I really like your choice of gear". Perhaps, "Isn't it a beautiful day?"

Shenandoah County still has many dirt roads. They're maintained by the Commonwealth and kept in great shape but they can be a bit narrow. Sometimes one has to pull over to make room for a car coming from the other direction. There is probably going to be a race.

One driver is going to try and beat the other driver to pulling off the road as far as possible and stopping to let the other through.

You can feel safe to wave at the driver who did this. You can even smile as you pass.

Keep both hands on the wheel, just lift the index finger of the right hand (and maybe the one next to it) smile at the friendly gesture. Feel the warmth fill your heart while your smile breaks free!

The Shenandoah Valley, my home by choice.
