As I sit here watching the wind and rain outside and listening to the thunder I find myself thanking God that this time my family and friends are for the most part out of the path of the storm. While I hope the areas still in harms way are suprised by the lack of damage, I just wanted to take a moment to try to get others to realize how fortunate we are in SC. I was here for Hugo in 89 and although I was young I remember the damage afterward. If you are out of the path of the storm please take time to Thank God and say a little prayer for those that are still facing the storm. Just a brief pause may give you the perspective needed to recognize just how Blessed we are.

Shown above are a couple of maps of the city of Georgetowns Historic District. Located between Charleston SC and Myrtle Beach SC Georgetown was founded in 1732 and is the 3rd oldest city in SC. These maps show the general location of parks and many areas of interset but there are a multitude of interesting facts and things to do in Georgetown that these maps do not show. As I sit here blogging I have to describe my surroundings so you get an understanding of what im up against. In my home office my 2 year old son has found the thrill of a lifetime playing in my laptop bag on the floor. I have a pile of UN-filed reports/agreements on my desk and I just got done with a visitor at my door which wasn't related to work. Now i know what many of you may be thinking, "you have to keep work and home separate" but recently I have started pondering this question. Now im not saying this is typical for me, quite the contrary today has been an exception. My babysitter has a fever and my wife was booked solid with appointments so I am Mr Mom today. However when you work from a home office is your life ever really separated into work or family? I suppose there are 2 ways of looking at this. 1 is that you are never away from your office (and at least in my case) you are never really "off". The second way to see it is that since you are at home and family life has a tenancy to intrude you never really get enough done in the typical day. In my case I can say that both points are valid depending on the day. Most days I am in my office strictly by myself on my laptop working. Even worse I end up getting calls at weird hours, usually any time I sit down for a movie or even a bite to eat. On the other end of that spectrum there are the days when the babysitter is sick or the wife has an unexpected appointment
and the work gets put off until I get back. Both ends of the spectrum have their own problems but I am now working on balancing both extremes. Admittedly in my current situation I think my business will end up taking much more of my time than any typical job would. However I hope that with the flexibility real estate offers I hope to take some "fishing days" for me and the family.
If you dont enjoy yourself from time to time, what good is it?

To all the readers who do not know, Georgetown SC is a historic town that was started in 1729 and is the third oldest city in SC after Charleston and Beaufort. Most of the historic sites are located in the Historic district downtown. Many of the local businesses are centered on front street, nestled nicely on the waterfront. Recently the city (in conjunction with the DOT) has started a major drainage project that has cut off the main entrance to front street, causing a major disruption to the normal flow of traffic. Most of the tourist that travel to Georgetown do so while driving down highway 17 between Charleston and Myrtle Beach. The front street entrance is directly off of 17 and is marked by signage and a traffic light and now huge "detour" signs. I spoke to one business who stated the traffic into their store is down about 50%! The downtown area has so many business and so much to offer I wish the city would do a better job of directing traffic down Front street. With the fresh local seafood markets, tours, shops and restaurants I feel the average passers by really dont know what they are missing.
